You're all terrible, the answer was Eraserhead, and I made it obvious.

well sure for the 5 and a half people on this site who have heard about that movie...

on second though, still no. you said: it's back and white, happens on a planet, involves a male character, involves a female character, who either has the cheeks of a chipmunk, or has cheeks which are like that of a chipmunk. even if eraserhead was the only movie you ever saw you couldn't guess with those hints.

Hint 1
Although she survived, she was left in a coma for many years before waking up.

Hint 2
When she wakes up from her coma, she is still haunted by memories of that day.  She becomes convinced that the cult leader is trying to get to her from beyond the grave.

let's try this:

2 sisters decide they want to seduce the same man, one has a baby form him and the other marries him.

note: this is PG-13 ( for violence probably) so don't get any funny ideas.

That depends on taste. I find bizarre imagery to be more entertaining than generic action movies for example. Why the hell would I watch something by a director who uses techniques that have existed since the dawn of film? It's boring, after you've watched billions of movies these things get on your nerves. Eraserhead is original enough to be entertaining for jaded watchers.

It's the same reason I like early John Woo, back then there was nothing like it. When I go to see a movie, I don't just want to see an original plot and characters as some people are content to do, but I want to see unique direction, style and quite importantly writing that doesn't use the words to explain 90% of everything happening. That's rare, Eraserhead scared the hell out of me because despite how awkward it was, Henry can be related to, he seems to be just as confused as you are yet he doesn't have to courage to do or say anything until the last instances of the film.

Besides, there's something alluring about a film that isn't easily understood, and even though Lynch hasn't spoken about what the film truly means, I'm content just not knowing what the hell is going on and sharing the weirdness. It's the point of surrealism, if you try too hard thinking about it the movie loses its edge, it's why I laugh at all the people trying to interpret Eraserhead and touting their interpretation as the definite article.
Freaking film student retards, they can't even understand the genre they so snobbishly speak about. I don't care if anyone doesn't enjoy Eraserhead because "it doesn't make sense" it does piss me off when people say that those who don't understand and dislike the film because of it are stupid. They're not, and their opinion makes perfect sense, they still enjoy simple/elaborate but understandable films, some people just grow tired of that.

So don't tell me it "sucks", that's subjective, and it's an incredible piece where Lynch manages to make dead air and an extremely slow narrative work, if you're watching for the small nuances then it becomes more entertaining.

@a1s - Nonsense, I've seen enough obscure films in this thread to warrant the belief that you'd know what it is, and those hints were no worse than some of the ones people have posted here.

Sounds like The Other Boleyn Girl.

@Pigggy - I've not actually seen Eraserhead, so I was unlikely to get that one. I have mixed feelings about David Lynch - watching the extras on the Mullholland Drive DVD he comes across as being a complete prick (albeit a talented one), but I still enjoy that movie and Blue Velvet. It's nice not to have my intelligence insulted by a movie which feels it needs to spell out absolutely everything which is going on in words of one syllable sometimes - the theatrical release of Donnie Darko (but not the director's cut - man, that was disappointing), much of Terry Gilliam's stuff, The Usual Suspects, Being John Malkovitch, even Fight Club (the first time, at least) are far richer for that aspect. I like to be picking up on new things or seeing different angles after several viewings.
I enjoy Edgar Wright's direction in a similar fashion, actually - there are as many references, gags, homages, hints, red herrings and little bits of awesomeness tucked away in Hot Fuzz or Shaun of the Dead as there are out in the open; I really get the sense that every last detail of every shot and edit was carefully crafted to improve the film. You can see that coming through on a lesser scale in the best episodes of Spaced too.
Plus I'm jealous that he's going out with Charlotte Hatherley. Talented git :(

Ok, this film features the (pretty damn awful) acting debut of a well-known singer and a lead who has appeared as a guest on Family Guy.
