In contrast to the weaponsfire early in the movie, there is only one working (or: only one that appears in working condition) gun in the fully coloured part of this movie. It's never fired. One of the characters takes great care to make sure it disappears beneath water. There's also a bomb that's never used, and instead dismantled and thrown into water. (and water is, in my opinion, a very prevalent recurring motive in this movie, although it's role is completely implicite and metaphorical)

Ironically, this same water carried with it the pollution mentioned earlier.

they made a movie in way back in 1979. and while it is a sort of inspiration, it has little to do with the eponymous game.

It's actually one of very, very few movies I felt the need to own myself.
It now serves as a constant reminder that I should really watch more of Tarkovski's films

By the way, the book the movie (and game) was inspired by, Roadside Picnic, is also well worth a read. Or multiple reads, if you like it.
