Microsoft's "mind reading" patent

Quote

Microsoft applied for a patent to monitor user's brain waves to understand how good (or bad) their interfaces are. Filed on August 9, 2007
They should have got to read my brainwaves one of those oh so frequent times when Win98 crashed for no reason, and when I had to reboot Scandisk told me that I was a bad boy for turning off without closing the OS.

As much respect as I have for Peter Tatchell, he's never happy is he? It's a freakin' wizard for chuff's sake! It wouldn't really work if Dumbledore started mincing around the place, calling everyone 'sweetie', bringing hairdressers back to his office and listening to Barbara Streisand, would it?

hmm, thinking about it, maybe Dumbledore's just turning more and more into Ian McKellen

I'm pretty sure Michael Gambon won't be too happy about that, though. Seeing as he's the one actually playing him...

Gah. With the beard and everything, he looks like Gandalf. Maybe Magneto's wardrobe is better suited to his new closet-free existence, though.

Wonder if I'm the only one that sees the whole thing as a cheap publicity scam?
Or sees an audience bursting into applause over anybody (never mind a fictional character's) sexuality as reeking of the poseur a tad?

No, you're not the only one...
Although my favourite bit was that ridiculous sentence by the gay rights group speaker: "It shows that there's no limit to what gay and lesbian people can do, even being a wizard headmaster." I bet that particular job is going to become a lot more popular now...

besides, in order to get his job he had to keep his orientation "in the closet" as they say, what kind of message does that send?

I had the same thought - you mean if I was gay I could be a wizard headmaster? Sign me up! At least Stonewall didn't feel the need to take it TOO seriously, unlike Tatchell - I'm not sure he has the capacity to be satisfied with something any more.
