I have one, seems from lots of the boards I browse on and some media publications, seems ps3 seem to have made a let down with their games, there were a few that were decent, but it seems the big winners this year were the wii and the 360, the 360 got a bunch of awards for the sort of sequel to system shock (Forget the name) and the wii generated a lot of buzz with it's ideas and demos, especially Super Mario Galaxy, the high price point for the ps3 didn't help things either, and a weak launch line up, methinks sony getting overconfident.

The games for the PS3 were great and most people thought the software was great.
Summary would be that the games were great but there were so many flaws with the system itself that people could hardly get excited over having to shell over so much money and play with such a lame controller that the games' effects slackened off.

With a high pricepoint I really think this will hurt them, unless they can deliver the goods they are going to suffer for their overconfidence.

The sad thing is that that's the excuse Sony itself is using, and it's not working.
Sony has a small fanbase, it barely has as many fans as Nintendo or Microsoft has, the thing is, the largest percent of Sony's customers or supposed "fanbase" are casual gamers and gamers who just want to play games, and since the Playstation 2 was a descendant of a largely popular system, the large portion of "other" gamers went to the Playstation 2.

Of course, casual/average gamers do not hold grudges with certain companies or systems, they just want an affordable and fun system with several popular games to feed them, and while the Playstation 3 is generating huge buzz with its games, no everyday person is going to shell out $500/600 dollars for a system, just like nobody except a PC freak or technophile will pay $2000 for a computer.
The thing is, Sony doesn't even know who their customers are, and their over-confidence is going to kill them.
They just need to face the facts and somehow get their system back on track or they're going to fail. Just like the PSP's declining sails and lack of interest from third party developers, many people didn't buy the system because of the price tag, Sony even noticed this when they suddenly dropped the price tag.

Sony had a good run, but in their race to put technology before properly looking at what was appropriate for our times, they doomed themselves to an unproductive cycle for the next few years.
Let's just hope the Playstation 4 (if there is one) will manage to succeed if the PS3 doesn't (when it most likely will fail).
Microsoft put an affordable price-tag that will only go down in time, offered, several simple and fun games that properly enforced the system's hardware prowess, and to boot added in a bunch of extra crap. The Wii already has a huge interest garnered by the general public, and non-gamers are taking interest too. Not to mention a great line-up and the support of a rabid fanbase which despite popular belief, is bigger than Sony's (although they aren't quite as insane as X-Box fans).

No offense but, the same could be said for Nintendo, MOST of the titles they relly on are the same ones theu relied on for the NES, not saying its not the same for the PS (FF!!!111) but you know

That's kinda true, especially for the GameCube, but it still reinforces that they have more fans, since those titles sell really well, mostly from people that have been Mario fans since the days of Super Mario Bros. or Donkey Kong.

Speaking of FF, I'm excited for the FF3/6 remake coming to the DS.
