Indeed that might be a factor. :P But there are some great games, like Mario Kart, Mario Tennis, even Mario Golf are all good sports game of the series. Still Mario is going strong with it's game that are coming up and there's no slowing down for this hero, same with FF with 12 and 13.

The Mario games are awesome, get over it.

The reason the PC SUCKED at E3, is because despite of the game coverage, none of it was interesting, and almost none of it was new. They were mostly a bunch of games that have been delayed for about 500 years. Next year, when we won't care so much about the new consoles, the PC will do MUCH better.

Other than Alienware, PC marketing isn't nearly as sexy as video game consoles, and there isn't really any truly innovative PC technology to push the game market there, atm, either. It's bigger, better, faster, but boring.

When it comes to modern gaming, video game consoles just kill PCs - they're cheaper, just as powerful, and ready to play whatever game you pop in, unlike PCs, which often require some frustration and tweakage.

And in some cases , you can get the same games for PC as for video consoles.

Pffft! When I can play Dwarf Fortress, DRoD and ADoM on my console, optimise a load of screenshots in 30 seconds, browse the internet comfortably and play FPSs with a keyboard I'll think about getting rid of my PC.

Granted, if you ONLY want to play shiny, substance-free games on your telly a console makes sense, but I can play shiny, substance-free games on my PC too - I just prefer shiny ones with some substance :P

EDIT: Oh, and FWIW I like Mario (including Sunshine, although it was too easy) but FF bores me to tears. Mario Kart: Double Dash was incredibly disappointing, though; what posessed them to make the battle mode WORSE than MK 64's? That was the best bit of the game!

I personally also like the fact that a PC tends to last a bit longer and that I'm not completely at the mercy of the commercial giants.

There's enough reasons to prefer PC to console. Of course if we're talking about gaming, it's hard to go by the fact that consoles are tailored to game with, and usually do offer a better deal for those that just want to play the newest things there are on the market and care little for anything else.

Still, I don't exactly get the

statement. Controlers are one thing, but real hardware innovations are usually introduced on PC, if I'm not mistaken. Even if at the moment there's not much special out there.

I would disagree, console markets are much bigger, faster, and boring, and there is much less innovation in console market, it may feel so now that they are more innovative, because new consoles are released (after what 6 years?) so basically nothing has changed in 6 years, the game released are just sequels too each other, qute boring and same, so don't forget that the innovations in consoles will have to last for at least 5-6 years (if this cycle would be shortened, then consoles would be even worse than upgrading PC), while PC can evolve constantly, and also giving us a much much greater variety of games than consoles which are basically 90% Action/RPG....

Also another problem with consoles is that they cash in on every innovation, or are very late to say the least (because of the development cycle), so you could say that many things from PC are just now integrated into consoles (Multiplayer gaming comes in mind first), mods (for which you'll probably have to pay for) etc.

That's a prerequisite lie that always comes with consoles.
It's the same on the PC, think of all the FPS games that have been pumping out of the PC, and especially the strategy games.

The PC is also an innovation ditch, just in different areas. The consoles have actually delivered more innovative titles in the past years than the PC has. Neither has a lack of "innovation".

Seriously, just go check out a game store like Gamestop, if you look in the console isle.

Improvement and innovation are two separate things.

Currently, there is nothing innovative about PC hardware that is pushing the game market to also be innovative. It's improved, but improvement doesn't lead to necessarily interesting games, it leads mostly to prettier graphics. I can't honestly say I've seen a PC game in the last few years that made me say, "Oooo, have to get it!" - except for Oblivion, which I had to get because I love Elder Scrolls, and really, other than being prettier, it's much like an expanded Morrowind.

The most innovative things I've seen lately, in both game development and technology, have been put out by console developers. The controller for the Wii, for example, will change the way games are interacted with, which allows for new  ideology in game creation.

Yes but look how much the PC has changed in the last 6 years and how much have consoles changed (to this date when Wii isn't out), can you honestly tell me that consoles are more innovative?
PC has things like mods, freeware games, browser games, many independent titles, and there are many innovative games for it, maybe you haven't heard of it, because they were not made by huge companies...
I don't know for me the level of possibilities and interaction are much greater on the PC than they'll ever be on consoles...

Indeed although innovation in the market has kinda grinded to a halt, it's on the  console side we are seeing more of it happen, not the pc side where there hasn't been a lot of. Things are changing and hate to say it but the consoles are getting the momentum, just look at games like guitar hero, another new idea that worked, with the wii and the ds pretty much changing the ways games are played it's going to make an impact and it is the demographics are also changing no longer are just young people playing games it's starting to broaden.

Has the PC really changed much in 6 years? :P

I mean, yeah, faster and better hardware, but *changed*?

Nah. I bought a PC in 2000, and got a new PC for Christmas this year. I think the only thing that's truly changed is that now I'm using an LCD flat panel display w/ DIV instead of a CRT - more desk space. Oh, and when I popped it open to add a few cards, the case architecture was a bit nicer. It was faster, of course, but I wouldn't say innovative.

On the other hand, consoles have changed a ton in 6 years. Moddable, networkable, portable, etc. - and with the Wii, consoles are outstripping PCs in innovation (and by the way, it's already out, it's just not released to the general public. It exists already, and can't be discounted to help your point). It's about time someone thought, "Hey, maybe we could do something truly different." Nice that it's Nintendo, too, because they've been lagging in the console market for years.

And believe it or not, there are small and independent developers for consoles as well, and have been since I was a kid. Ever heard of a black playstation (when there was only the PSOne)? The Xbox Incubator Program? PS2Dev? Heck, if you like old school, check out the Super Fighter Team. If you really want to independently produce a console game, there's more than likely a way to do it.

And for the record, I'm a big PC fan. There was a time when PCs killed the console market in gaming - the games were prettier, more interactive, more interesting, etc. - but now, the tides are turning the other way. Most of the best games come out for consoles first, then pop up for the PC later (sometimes simultaneously), and there are a lot of awesome console titles the PC will never see.
