It looks dumb, I don't even get it, I think it's as stupid and pointless as that Mii stuff on the Wii, I haven't even used that stuff since I got the system, this looks even worse.

this is so much more than a chat room though or Mii, it's a free sony run product with lots of buisness potential.
Notable features
any video, photo or song can be put into the world by the player via virtual versions of real devices
each player has a museum with 360 type accomplishments
games purchased offer new features to home
a buttload of minigames!
companies will be able to make their own worlds in it for game or product promotion
made with common tools like maya
seamless chat with quicktype, headset, options
movie theater for viewing of user submitted content
customizable home with physics based furniture
very customizable avatar
I seriously think this will take off, since it has the backing of all the ps3 games, sony, external corperations, and is free!

Its essentially a copy of the Mii feature again by Sony, which seems to love doing this,
Is it really needed though? I mean this sort of feature, I don't think it will do as well as they may hope.

They could easily do something like a la Wii channels or 360 live service, why make a service like that, its probably because of all the talk of the Mii service, from the media and such, and ps3 jumping on the bandwagon again.

from what I've seen in Phil Harrison's speech, Home is vastly superior to Mii, from the players aspect, and a buisness' aspect, and it actually has a point, in it's role of distributing product information

Prob is superior but whats the point? Do they really need to invest money in such an idea, when they could just use 360's basis to get something similar, and less cheesy, sorry imo somebodys snoozing at sonys marketing team.

Actually doesn't sound too bad to me, chalk this up as another thing the PS3 has going for it in my books that might make me consider it.
The other thing I'm considering it for being Devil May Cry 4.
Still not enough to make me fork out a small fortune.
But still, kinda neat.

Instead of building a useable service for full online integration, Sony has come with THIS? Nah, I don't think that Xbox Live will have to worry about competition any time soon. Much too clunky, and even though the "basic service" may be free, you can bet your *money-maker* that sooner or later there will be content for purchase. New clothes, furniture, virtual carpets... or huge virtual billboards? Getting spammed to death in real life is bad enough, but to get spammed to death in a so-called "free" virtual space is simply EVIL :-)
Oh, and why do I need all the features Docktor Worm pointed out in his first post when I just want to play games with my friends? I don't care about "highly customizable avatars" (especially since they are home ONLY) or "special worlds made to promote a game", much less any of that advert crap.
Home smells too much like a giant marketing machine with a little functionality thrown in - far removed from "second life" where you, as a user, can actually CREATE content- a feature that seems notably absent from Home (apart from that media import thing) where you're stuck with what the corporations let you play with.
