It feels more real without the crosshair, not that it's realistic, like Japo said with his little geometrical thing or whatever.

Yes, kind of, if the aim is always centered, then it can increase certain feeling of realism. I haven't spoken against that, or have I? But in OFP it isn't unless you take good aim and I've been speaking about the accuracy unaimed.

I was saying to Japo that just because it isn't like the real thing, doesn't mean it doesn't feel like the real thing, I wasn't saying it to you.

Once I'm really involved with the game, trying to locate that BMP among buildings by the noise it makes and so, a little crosshair doesn't ruin the experience. Maybe having to be aware of the borders of the monitor in order to find its centre would be worst, I don't know.

At least when I shot at my uncle's it wasn't a plastic gun, it was a real rifle in all senses of the world "real", and I rested against my shoulder, not chest, so as to be able to actually aim carefully. It was made of steel with the usual wooden butt (by the way, compressed air carabines in use over here, not in toyshops and such but at fairs, are also made of steel and they're heavy for a kid). It was a small-calibre low-recoil rifle my uncle chose especially for me, but he did so precisely because I was just a kid. Maybe it would be right now less problematic for me holding a M16 that it was holding that rifle back then. But I wasn't exhausted because I only shot a couple of times, I didn't take exhaustion into the equation as you did, I'm sure you're right about that.

Damn that's thrilling experience. BMPs are far more lethal against infantry in structured areas than MBTs, thanks to 30mm autocannon - however you can destroy one with 3 or 4 grenades, if you're good enough. And that's not anymore realistic... :/

Perhaps I was a little too unclear: I meant that shooting with plastic IR-gun to meter or so is a little different than shooting with real rifle - and yes, even those "toy-guns" you have are real weapons and can be even lethal. And yes, I led this thread far off-topic, shall I suggest that we get back to topic? :sneaky: If someone's interested, please begin new thread focusing on realism in FPSs - I'm in it easily!

Well my wrists are so puny compared to the rest of my body that they hurt after playing Time Crisis for a while. It's not the plastic gun which weights but the cable which connects it to the machine, protected by a flexible tube of stainless steel. :sneaky:

This is somewhat related to the annoying habit I've already mentioned, but I like to read a game's whole manual before even trying it. I tend to take this to the extreme, for example when a fried lent me Civ3 to try it out I read the whole manual (over 100 pages I think) before starting to play, AND I was already a wizard of Civ2. :P

I'm pretty bad at shock/horror console games...

The main reason being that I drop the controller when stuff jumps at me.

(I think I hit the ceiling one time during Resident Evil.)

Best not to try it with Doom 3 either - apart from the fact that it's not very good, you wouldn't want to throw your whole PC around the place.

Clive Barker's Undying was the only game that ever scared me.

Other than the little violin dudes in the Wind Waker, those guys were freaky.

The Trilby trilogy scared the jeepers out of me. I can't stand constant noises with a creepy change to it. It just is too weird for me. I'll jump and my heart starts to really pump and it's just ugh, especially in Trilby's Notes. Those dimension switches at first scared me so bad.

But something such as Doom 3, doesn't scare me, strange really...

Oh yeah the Resident Evil games always have their jumpy sections, still remember that part in 2, where you had a licker attack you in the interrogation rule, was so unexpected.
