1. Sean went drinking with Juni three weeks ago and has been drunk ever since. (We expect him to be duly sobered by Christmas, though.)
2. Sean has been given a new identity due to unforeseen events involving the queen, a bag of crisps, a woolly jumper and Sean's badminton award. You must not refer to him as Sean again or you endanger his security.
3. Sean's house has a leaky roof and the water short-circuited his computer. His dad insists that unless he fixes the roof personally, there's no way he'll get a new one. Sean is consequently visiting evening classes teaching him all about roof tiles, thatching and various types of insulating foam.
4. Sean is writing on his new novel. He'll be back once the 2007 Booker Prize has been awarded.
5. Sean has joined the Society of Friends and has given all his computing equipment to charity. Now that he's done that he's sort of missing his computer, though, and he wishes he had converted to a more technology-friendly religion, like buddhism.

What I meant was that Sean made the bad mistake of accompanying you on one of your pub crawls (or whatever the Finnish equivalent is) - during a day trip to Finland, perhaps - and still hasn't sobered up yet, although he's been home for weeks now. You're used to this kind of thing, of course, so I don't suppose you'll be sober on Christmas unless you want to be.

But I agree that was a bit of a long shot. 2-6 are a lot more plausible on the whole.
