Oldschool side scroller
Ah sometimes it's good to remember past titles, certain games like the old Double Dragon series was always enjoyable to play, simple action that was challenging. Well with Vigilante, you can experience that old feeling of action in this side scroller fighting game. As you try to take the law into your own hands.
The story for this game is keeping with the tradition of most old fighting games, apparently going to paraphrase here, the skinheads have kidnapped Madonna and it's time to take the law into your own hands. Now, granted it is cliche that the story may not be up to par, but I mean it would have been nice to see some changes. This game has been remade from the old Vigilante arcade game, and through 5 levels you can use your brawler to punch, kick or jump punch or jump kick your way through anyone that gets in your way. The controls are simple enough to get into, the control keys kick while the alt keys can punch, use the directional keys to move and the up key to jump.
Graphically the game has not lost a beat, and its visuals are still good, I did not find a problem with them, and it was good to see some variety of different enemies that you face. Although you will face some of the same ones very quickly on, there is at least some variety rather than the same two types of models. This brings me to the music, which happens to be excellent, you can choose to either have techno music or chip is the other option. Both are good and although you can tell it is a bit aged in sound, for this type of game it fits perfectly, and really makes the experience that much more enjoyable.
The only nagging point of the game is sometimes the overwhelming amount of enemies you will face, especially on level 5. When it really starts to get annoying and your being grabbed every 3 seconds, this was my only dissatisfaction with the game.
Overall though, this is a very excellent side scrolling fighting game and if you're a fan of these types of games, I highly recommend you check it out, it's called Vigilante, now go bash some skulls!
