The violence and chaos that has engulfed the streets of Detroit has caused much pain for the citizens of the city. The police are powerless to help, and it seems that crime will continue to rise. It does not get any better for one police officer by the name of Alex Murphy, who is gunned down by a group of thugs. However, the OCP (Omni Consumer Products) a mega corporation that is funded by the city to fund and operate the police forces. The corporation has a plan to eliminate the crime problems of the city by creating a cyborg, in which Alex is nominated as the best candidate for the project. Thus Robocop is born, as a law enforcing cyborg, to stop the crime of the city and bring peace back to the city. However, there is more to this tale, and soon Robocop will discover that there is more to his existence and discovering who he really is, that is yet to be discovered. In Robocop 2D, in this game you get an excellent remake of the original game, with added movie scenes, a great soundtrack and plenty of action to experience.

Controls and options can be set up when you load up the game, just hit the "o" button on your keyboard to get started and start tweaking away, to your hearts content. Once you are ready you can either try the story mode or go from there, or if you wish to see how fast, you can beat your level. Choose your level for time attack to see if you can get a fast time. Whichever choice you pick, get ready for the action that is to come.  Your objective through the levels is basically to take out any bad guys, so how will you do that? With your different weapons of course, though apparently shoot first and ask questions is what Robocop does. Once you defeat all the enemies in a level and if necessary a boss too, you will be able to move onto the next level.

The game is based on the Ocean developed title for the PC and really looking at this game, it looks fabulous. The game although uses mostly dark colours and environments it just looks good. As you play you will be able to pay attention to the little details from the bad guys, to the breaking of glass, it looks really good. There is plenty of action to see in this game, as there is always something going on. From the different enemies that hope to defeat Robocop, to just different scenes that play out, such as hostage situations, there is a lot to see in this game. The difficulty of the game can be pretty challenging, mainly because Robocop cannot jump, and therefore you cannot avoid bullets from the bad guys. So you have to be the one to fire first and take them down, acting fast is the way to go in this game.

Another interesting feature that was surprised to see was the use of movie clips from the first Robocop movie. Most of these are shown once you beat a level and most are short, but that was still something I was not expecting. The soundtrack for the game also deserves mention as it really fits in with the mood of the game. The dark nature of the game and the music that plays during the game just fits in nicely with all that is going on. Sound effects are also all accounted and present and even Robocop himself will utter some of his lines, as he encounters the different enemies in the game.

The issue though with this game has to do with its repetitive nature. The game focuses on combat but that is really what the majority of the game is about. There are certain changes from the action, such as hostage situations and where a bit of strategy comes into play if you wish to succeed, but generally, it is mostly the same idea of shooting and killing the bad guys. Also, you only have three lives and once you lose all three lives, you have to restart the game from the beginning of the game. This can be annoying when you get far into the game and that happens.

Nevertheless, this was an enjoyable game that had its moments and recommend it to anyone who may like this sort of game. It will give you a challenge, so it will not be a walk in the park. So check out Robocop 2D and see it for yourself.
