I played this game when it came out. it's very enjoyable. some power ups would be nice or at the very least 12 more ship parts to find because it's so much fun - gameplay-wise.
The writer mentioned the game look similar to the wonderful "within a deep forest" but he didn't mention the fact that it was made by the same creator.
he was working on WDF 2 and made "Knytt" a small mini game (like the ones in WDF) and he liked the concept so much he decided to make it a full game.
BTW, as result, he learned how to batter use the program he's been using to create games and he decided to postpone WDF2 so he could make use of what he learned. He stopped working on WDF2 so it kinda' suck
but not so bad...
