Basics:

The Adventures of Fatman: Toxic Revenge was AGS' first commercial game made by Socko Entertainment in May of 2003, and being AGS' first game to enter the commercial market, they were sure to make it of the highest quality in all aspects, from humor to graphics. The game was released as freeware about a year ago, so now the game is available for everyone to download.

Story:

In this fabulous and highly praised game, you play a hero, a fat, slo..., um, I mean an intrepid superhero named Batman. The great famous...oh all right. This game is about the hero Fatman, a fat slob with no manners who protects the shady crime-ridden and rat-infested town of Shadowlawn, where a shady corporate business in the cosmetics industry is plotting an extremely evil and vile scheme. They plan to cover up some bad guy dealings and get rid of their worst hitman at the same time. They send their hitman on a fake assignment in order to whack him by blowing up a huge chemical factory. However their plan goes haywire, and their former hitman is turned into a vile chemical creature known as Toxicman. At first angered that the accident has left him without powers, he vows to get his revenge on the men who tried to kill him, all the while unknowingly having the power to zombify anyone who touches him. Meanwhile, Fatman gets a transmission about the chemical factory explosion, and after TV and some nachos, heads out to once again save Shadowlawn...

Game play:

The GUI in this game is actually quite original, though it may not seem that way. The main GUI is the same as the old Sierra GUI, but the inventory is the same as a LucasArts inventory. The combo is quite good; it makes some of the mechanics easier and more enjoyable and I personally never liked the Sierra inventories.

Graphics:

The graphics are amazing for a non professionally-made game, and they are quite like the graphics used in Day of the Tentacle, yet the game also produces its own unique style that adds to the enjoyment the game will give you.

Characters:

The cast of characters in Fatman is quite good, and many of their characters are immersive. One thing I don't like with many games, is when a character is just there to fill space. I like to see a lot of background information about each character in your conversation with him/her, so you can really find out what kind of person the character is and what his or her life is like. Fatman has that; all the characters all have unique personalities, and you can actually call them individuals.

Puzzles:

The puzzles in this game are all there to bring humor to the game. Not a single puzzle in the entire game contains one ounce of seriousness to it. There is always something to make you laugh, such as making a giant man produce flatulence in order to get into a punk club.

Replayability:

The replayability factor in the game is pretty high, and just as with classics like Monkey Island and Sam and Max this is a memorable comedy that you will want to experience over and over.

Overall:

Overall, this game is fantastic with absolutely no flaws that I can see. I predict you are going to enjoy this game entirely. I give it a straight 5 out of 5, and I believe you will find it just as good as well.
