Super Breakout 2007 Reviewed by: DeathDude Positive Points: Fun breakout game Great music Thirty Stages Negative Points: No Save/Password feature Genre: Arcade Size: 12 061 KB Requirements: Windows Questionable Content: None Editor rating: 4.3 Homepage: None Download location: Hosted at AR (Leave download location blank) Original Archive Location: http://www.caiman.us/scripts/fw/f2888.html With the variety of breakout type games out in the freeware community, it can be tough to pinpoint the gems from the snoozer types. Certain titles try to add variety to this type of game, while others just try to keep the spirit of the original game. With Super Breakout 2007, this particular game manages to keep the spirit of the original game intact and does a solid job of doing so. With a total of thirty stages to explore, classic items to help you out, as you try to keep that pesky ball from destroying every brick that is in the way and to achieve that coveted high score all in the process. The objective of this game is simple to remember, simply use your little bouncy ball to destroy all the bricks that exist, and move onto the next level, sound simple enough? However, so that the process may not seem all too tedious for some, there are 7 items that you can earn, as you bust those bricks, in order to help the process go by faster. From a laser firing ally, to a longer paddle, to a super ball that destroys every brick in its path, by going through those tough bricks. It may seem like there is not a lot to do in this type of game, but as you advance through each level, you will encounter tougher challenges, that will challenge your wits and your reflexes. Graphically, the game looks quite nice. From the movement of the paddle, to the movement of the ball, which actually moves quite logically and not all over the place, but reacts to the movement of how fast or slow your paddle is moving when the ball hits it. There are also other affects such as explosions that look alright, nothing too fancy but it adds a nice touch to the game. As mentioned earlier, there are thirty stages to encounter in this game. You will face fifteen stages in each of the two board modes, pick whichever you like when you start the game and see how far you can make it, all the while earning points, extra lives to ensure you stay alive and can show off how far you made it. The music and sound effects in the game are also stellar to listen to. The music changes from stage to stage, but the tracks will eventually loop as you advance in the game. Most of the music fits with the action going on screen and does not distract you from what is going on, and the sound effects also are executed nicely. The only concern I had with this game, was that there was no save or password feature that could have been implemented. In order to reach the end of the fifteen stages, you have to make it through in one sitting, which is not too bad compared to other games, but it would have been a nice feature to have, for gamers who may not have time to sit down for long periods of time. Nevertheless, this was a fun game and suggest you try it out, if you’re a fan of any type of breakout games, it’s a solid title that does not disappoint.
