HeroQuest Remake Review review by The Ringmaster Positive Points: ------------------------------------------- Simple Gameplay Lots of Levels Reasonable Graphics Negative Points: ------------------------------------------- Only four character types No character customization HeroQuest is a turn-based Action/RPG. Originally a board game, HeroQuest was made by the board-game company "Milton Bradley." Later HeroQuest was made into a DOS game. Now, HeroQuest has been remade for modern computers by Gerwin Broers. The storyline is the basic RPG cliche, You and three other players (Or just you playing as all four) are four heroes who have just finished your training and now are sent out into the world to help people. There are literally, hundreds of "quests" to complete which makes for a long time playing. HeroQuest comes with a level editor which allows you to make your own quests and campaigns which, you can put onto the Gerwin Broers website so that others may fight in your custom built dungeon. Also, a Diablo-style "Dungeon" mode is included. In the Dungeon Mode you choose to be one of the four preset hero classes (Barbarian, Dwarf, Elf, or Wizard) and venture into a randomly-created dungeon with infinate levels. This and the Level Editor makes HeroQuest infinately replayable. The graphics have been changed a little bit from the original graphics of the DOS version. The blurry Isometric bitmap-ish sprites of the DOS version have been replaced with a much clearer, sleeker, top-down 2D style. HeroQuest features great graphics and replayability. Unfortunately, lack of customizability in your characters was a big letdown for me. You do not name your characters, nor do you choose thier character classes or race. It is all preset. HeroQuest is very simple, it is a sort of Diablo Lite, recommended for people who prefer simplicity in thier games. HeroQuest comes with an extensive game manual and a tutorial to match. But for all it's faults, which I must say are few, HeroQuest is an excellent remake of the old DOS version. I give HeroQuest: Graphics: 6/10 Sound: 8/10 Gameplay: 8/10 Replayability: 10/10 Customisation: 7/10 Total: 8/10
