Thanks all for your comments
I finished my first project for my drawing and comp II class tonight, and thought I'd share... forgive the photo, it's a bit blurry. I'm taking digital photography this term as well, but I haven't quite figured out the settings yet
Oil pastel on vellum.
This is the first part of a four-part project - we basically have to pick a type of subject and create four pieces using that type of subject in different styles of art - I'm doing figures, and this is my exp
ressionism piece. The other styles I've chosen are pointillism, cubism, and impressionism.
Oh, and for those who may not know, exp
ressionism is a style that focuses less on actual form, and more on portraying emotion - it's typically characterized by distorted (non-proportional) figures, bright colors, a bit abstract mixed in with realism, I suppose.

And it's pretty much the first time I've attempted to use oil pastels for more than just screwing around, so I'm pretty sure my technique is crap. Oh well.
