Looks really good, Tai.:)
Just wondering: why don't you try not-quite-fresh fruit next time, for a challenge? I bet it isn't easy to render spots and bumps and flaws in the fruit accurately...

Actually, Raffles, I find it's a whole lot easier to draw stuff that looks rotten.

(ha-ha) :D

@Moogle: There's a wip vector render of a lotus I posted a few pages or so ago. Unless you're referring to something else.

And, thanks everyone :)

Thanks all for your comments :D

I finished my first project for my drawing and comp II class tonight, and thought I'd share... forgive the photo, it's a bit blurry. I'm taking digital photography this term as well, but I haven't quite figured out the settings yet :)

Oil pastel on vellum.

This is the first part of a four-part project - we basically have to pick a type of subject and create four pieces using that type of subject in different styles of art - I'm doing figures, and this is my expressionism piece. The other styles I've chosen are pointillism, cubism, and impressionism.

Oh, and for those who may not know, expressionism is a style that focuses less on actual form, and more on portraying emotion - it's typically characterized by distorted (non-proportional) figures, bright colors, a bit abstract mixed in with realism, I suppose.

And it's pretty much the first time I've attempted to use oil pastels for more than just screwing around, so I'm pretty sure my technique is crap. Oh well.

It looks really good Tai, very nice work on the piece. :D Definitely think you captured the emotion as you say, in this piece.

I totally love that drawing, and I think it is excellent!

The composition, colouring and effects in the piece speaks to different people in different ways. There is definately emotions there.

A feeling of being alone (there is absolutely no one else in that drawing, either in front of or behind the bar).
A feeling of sadness (her facial expression).
A feeling of hope (she holds her glass high, indicating that she has not given up - also the wine glass indicates that she has class and style).
A feeling of expectation (her left hand is outside the frame, and she appears to be looking in that direction - perhaps something has just happened, or is about to happen).
A feeling of conflict (the sadness and the loneliness is fighting with the sharp and joyful colours).

All of this works together to form a drawing, that in my opinion, is marvellous! :ok:

Kosta set up a gallery for me to put up photos from my digital photography class.

You can check out some of the photos I took todayhere.

Each picture has a caption if you click to see the larger view. It has a convenient sort of slide show presentation, as well.

Hope you like them (I have much to learn).

Hey guys, just an update... I got As in both art classes last term (Drawing II and Digital Photography).

One of my favorite projects from Digital Photography:
(the project was to piece together a black and white composite image inspired by the photographer Uelsmann's work)
