I suppose you'd have to use some sort of gesture to clarify what you're saying. For the benefit of Icelanders everywhere (but mostly in Iceland), I propose the following standards:
"That's annoying!"
"That turns me on!"
I'm pretty sure Iceland will name a holiday after me now.

I remember the show, but it really wasn't the best in my book...
Is it my soul?
Is it that glimpse of light? I never forget to expect.
Or is it you? Some kind of angel.
That keeps me in waiting forever?

I'm from Finland, so yes, I really have heard of them. Yes, Tove Jansson, the creator, lived in Finland, but spoke Swedish as her first language. The anime look on the tv-series might be because it's drawn in Japan IIRC.
The Moomin (Muumit in finnish) was a comic at first, and it really wasn't meant for children at the time. There was drug and alcohol abuse, sex and such in the original comic. I have read one book of them, and man, they were weird.
The book started with Muumipeikko ("Moomin troll", the kid, don't know his "real" english name), disappointed of the life he had led, trying to drown himself in the sea. Then Muumipappa and Muumimamma (The "granpa and granma" of the series) were rowing nearby and saw Muumipeikko, and just because Muumipappa thought he was a crate of whiskey floating in the water, they decided to pick him up. Of course, he was only disappointed when he realized it was just someone trying a suicide instead of whiskey.
I'm not making this up, really.

What is it about a beautiful sunny afternoon, with the birds singing and the wind rustling through the leaves, that makes you want to get drunk?

Holy molly it always seems stories taken from comics always seem to have a messed up storyline.

Talking about messed up stories... Ever seen Dr. Snuggles? There writers of that serie had to have been high on something... Cosmos cat, mushrooms that turns anyone who licks on them into butterflies, A camel in the clouds... the list goes on...

IIRC the kid's name was in fact Moomintroll in the English version.

November 16th is now not only the Dagur íslenskrar tungu (day of the icelandic language), but also Fruit Pie Jones's Day. Yay!
Mumintroll's name is Múmínsnáði in Icelandic.
I heard people can read the comics in the Nordic House... I might check it out when I have time!!

Yeah, the Moomins are a Scandinavian thing, Magic, but it used to be shown on CBBC (The kid's shows on the BBC). I remember them.
They were way less interesting than Power Rangers (which I have recently realised is a terrible translation of a title) at the time.
Then again, I was six years old.
