I'd guess a cheese rake looks like this:

and is basically the same concept as an apple peeler, but for cheese.

You use knife, to slice up your cheese...

DakaSha:if you go into a kindergarden and give all the kids rubber schlongs they will prob just hit each other over the head with them
DakaSha:and you have a class of little kids hitting eachother with rubber dongs which must be quite funny (also Picklweasel knight I am)

Yeah, you have to use a sharp knife, it works too. It's a bit rubbish though... :)

If you use a blunt/butter knife then all you get is bits of broken cheese.

Shhh. I love being told I'm right. (Never mind if it's true.) Now if only I could find a subtle way of telling that to my tutors as well...:bye:

I suppose the only difference would be that the one you posted could give you thicker slices (considerably thicker slices, in fact), and unless you were an expert cheese-raker they'd also tend to be a bit irregular, whereas the other more or less ensures that you can't get any slices thicker than about 2 millimeters. It's probably a matter of taste whether you'd consider that a good thing or not...

I recommend leaving some notes on their desks saying "I, Miss A.J. Raffles, like being told I am right. Cheers, tutory chums."

Just wait until the praise starts flying in like some kind of congratulatory biplane of justice.

I use a knife. :)
Is it my soul?
Is it that glimpse of light? I never forget to expect.
Or is it you? Some kind of angel.
That keeps me in waiting forever?

Ooh, we got one of em.
Works on cucumber too!
THATS how they always get those perfectly regular slices of cucumber in your tuna sandwiches.

Maybe the reason we have one is related to the fact my mother is swedish...

We also have a couple of them. Couldn't do without them :bye:
And we don't have any relatives up north.

We use them on cucumbers too, by the way. To peal them. :)

I know it may have been my fault, but was there any need for over a page of off-topic discussion about cheese cutting implements? A wire cutter on a cheeseboard is clearly superior.
