I don't know if anyone else is excited, but DoD:S is out on Monday, and I'm rather looking forward to playing it. Wish I'd bought the Silver HL2 package though rather than a boxed copy. D'oh!

There's a preview on www.IGN.com which has some nice media; the text is poorly written but the screenies are sexy :)

Hmm, my guess would be it's either Doyleys of Doom, Donkeys of Destruction or Dan on a Diet.:)

D'oh, failed to mention that. It's Day of Defeat, the WWII mod for Half-Life, except this is the Source version on the new engine, with lots of extra spangly bits.

It looks pretty nice, but I don't really dig the "pay for a MOD" thing... I'l probly get TF2 when it comes out though.

Well, having played I'll say it took me a while to get used to - there's a few changes from the original, like iron sights for riflemen (*coughnickedfromredorchestracough*) and much niftier grenades, and Avalance still sucks, but it's incredibly sexy and lots of fun. If anyone wants to try and find me sometime, I'm BeefontheBone.

Beef, have you ever played The Trenches for the original Half Life, or The Battlegrounds?

Hmm after playing this for about four hours today I would say that I love the graphics and the physics, but I don't like the new classes. The smoke grenades are alright, but they need to last a bit longer.

The rifle grenades are pretty damn handy, though. And the Axis machine pistol thingy that the Panzerfaust (I refuse to say "Rocket") chaps carry is ace.

Actually those bazooka/panzerfaust sidearms strike me as a bit overpowered sometimes - you're usually better off using them rather than the bazooka except in weird situations (and covering control points I suppose).

Bazookas and Panzerfausts are ace for killing off snipers, that's what I use them for, as rifle grenades are easy to avoid if you have any kind of skills. It also practically allows you to see the "oh bugger" look on your foes' faces as a rocket smacks them in the mouth.

Anyway, what I use the Rocket class for is hanging around with the sidearms, whilst picking up other people's weapons. A K98 + the super machine pistol thingy is a properly good combination, and a Thompson and an M1 are pretty handy too.

I think DoD went downhill after dodv3.1BETA. 3.1 had the best maps and was very balanced. Then valve came and screwed em over. dod_overlord was the best omaha map I ever seen. I have been playing since v1.3b.

Why not use the Source SDK and remake it, then?
