Well, my personal favourites are: Ian Gillan (Deep Purple), Freddie Mercury, Ronnie James Dio and Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin).

Now, that's a bad quote. It should go:
The evil that men do lives after them
The good is oft interred with their bones...

hmm well he isnt the best singer but since there isnt a topic this would fit into id have to say Mike Patton(Faith No More/Fantomas/Mr. Bungle ect.) probably... i havnt heard THAT much of his stuff but from what i can tell the guy gets a big creativity bonus.

otherwise i guess id have to go with maynard

I recently heard some of Maynard's stuff, and I'll have to admit he's got a good voice I'll give him that, definitely deserves props, but still Dickenson among my favs, listen to Die with your boots on, Flight of Icarus, those songs were he sings in such a high operatic octive it's just crazy to hear imo.  Good crazy though. Ooh and adding Warrel Dane from Nevermore to my list too, heard some of his stuff, must start getting nevermore stuff now.

Breaking with my usual metal/hard rock persona I decided to pick up some easy listening cds recently and among them was a Josh Groban album. Wow! What a voice, check him out. :P

Been listening to some of my old Tool cds and I gotta say that Maynard was at the top of his game back on their Opiate EP. Impressive vocal work, simple but effective.

The music got mush better for Aenima and Lateralus though, I thought. Opiate and Undertow have some really mediocre bits. Personally, I prefer APC anyway - better lyrics, and Thirteenth Step is close to perfection.

^^ I agree completely. Musically Tool got better as time went on, I just prefer Maynard's more aggressive vocal delivery on their early releases. Aenima is my favorite by them and Lateralus has Schism on it which has been a personal fave of mine for years.

Havent heard too much APC, gonna check out their debut one of these days.
