This isn't actually a remake, it's just an update, it uses the original source code.

But in a way, it's been 'rebuilt'. It works on modern machines, with no hassle. Just download it, and play it.

This version is not mentioned in Moby Games, but it is the same as the original.

Yep, this is the CD version of the original System Shock with a loader and a pre-configured version of DosBox to make it run painlessly on modern machines. This isn't a remake; but is still very welcome as System Shock is sometimes difficult to run on a modern computer.
This is still regular abandonware as far as I can tell, not freeware. Any way, this is one of the best games ever - I got it back in 1996 (I think) as a bonus CD from some obscure gaming magazine a friend of mine was subscribed to; he was too addicted to Descent and Star Control 2 to play this one so I got the CD and completed it about 10 times since. |

A bit late, but what the hell.
how does this hold up to SS2? In my opinion this game is better than the sequel (which was good too) if you can get past the graphics. I prefer the story and the atmosphere in this game, and at the time it came out it was by far the best shooter I'd ever played. I remember it fondly, but I'm sorry to say I don't think I'd be able to deal with the dated graphics now. -------------------- Furthermore, it is my opinion that Carthage must be destroyed.

Is this game legal? I mean, it's basically a re release of a game that's still in copyright (or is it?).

The original System Shock is abandoned. But this version has been modified, so it works with modern computers.

That raises up a very good question I'm not going to answer.
ORIGIN games are abandoned? -------------------- |
