Since Beneath a Steel Sky, i haven't seen a adventure game. The story is great with a variety of choice for questions.
I have an in game question, is there a way to convince Leslie to join without asking the Queen to?

Not to my knowledge, from the several times I've played the game, I think you always have to ask the Queen to get Leslie to join your party.

Thats disappointing, I tried to stab him into joining but the queen stopped me.

Lots of ways to finish this game , try this at the end of the game, simply exit the screen to the left without killing Lord Horrible & the Queen.
