No, it's a P, actually... Psammead (aka "Psammy").
Don't tell me you've never read Edith Nesbit's Five Children and It? If you haven't, you really should. It's one of the greatest English children's classics. Way up there with The Secret Garden, Peter Pan and The Railway Children.

Basic plot outline: during a family holiday at the seaside, five children discover a grumpy, furry creature that calls itself a "sand-elf" (or psammead), and reluctantly agrees to fulfil them a wish per day (although for some complicated reason, everything will revert back to normal at sunset). They wish for a lot of nonsense, and obviously it all goes horribly wrong, but at least it makes for a very exciting - and unusual - holiday experience.

Really? I have those holidays every now and then. Ok, I try to fix my medication... A wish per day... Man I'd die happily and without lot of memories after that elf-meeting. I bet my body would last several years without significant signs of decomposition...
