Yea it was The Graduate, my bad, I've been "taught" that it was the main reason that Simon and Garfunkel became so well known, but you're right and they did have hits before it (good to know, thank you).
As for the current movie, I have no clue at the moment...although something keeps "popping up" in my mind, but can't place a finger on it.

Seeing the overwhelming response, I decide to give you another hint:
The movie is from the late 80's, a decade of decadent joy, which perhaps explains why the movie went largely unnoticed despite the cast. People didn't want a depressing movie in the Happy 80's.

I met a goldfish who remembered meeting me before, but I had forgotten about that.

Hint: One actor also played in The Little Shop Of Horrors, the actress has had a role in Kramer VS Kramer, and the third actor has been used as an actor as well as a musician by Jim Jarmusch. The movie is from 1987.

This movie is quite new and almost anyone, if not no one, knew anything about it until almost two years ago, and its style goes back to '80s.
...70 years... LOL

No, Pink Panther is way off, I'm afraid...
Hint #3: The hero is in the habit of being economical with the truth.
Hint #4: Towards the end of the film, there is a scene in which an atom bomb explodes in the background, but nobody seems to care much.
