The only film I can think of that has a character named Bromden in it is One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, but I've never actually seen it, so I wouldn't know whether it's really the film you're looking for.
Is it?

Hint #1: the film features the rather sad and unconvincing attempt of an otherwise excellent actor to pass for someone less than half his actual age.

Hint #3: It's one of the most famous films of its genre.
Hint #4: Among the cast were four Oscar-winners, but none of them won an Oscar for this film.
Hint #5: There are an awful lot of male characters in this film but only two women (plus a few female extras who only speak two sentences or less).
And if you need another hint about the storyline:
Hint #6: In one scene of the film, one of the main characters sets fire to his house and gets seriously drunk when he realises he has lost his almost-fiancée. It's his own fault, though, because he's so busy acting tough and saving other people's lives that he can never be bothered to actually propose to her.
