Hey all,

Just thought I'd drop in and share my exam results.. picked them up a couple days ago I believe. Anyhow, I can genuinely say that I lifted no more than half a finger for the last two years and still managed to walk away with everything I needed and a little comfort space as well.

I could/shoulda/woulda done better but then I of course would have to to actually do some work and for GCSE that's just not right ;)

Anyhoo, down to the actual results...

A For English
A For English Media
B For ICT (Maximum Grade)
B For RE
B For Maths (..was expecting to fail, chuffed with this one..)
CC For Science (Double Award)
C For Geography (..went into exam with 24% of the marks already... A* coursework... so this was a big flop)

So yeh in total:
5 A-B passes
or
8 A-C passes

I only needed 5 A-C's to get into college, so that's where I'm at starting the day after my birthday hehe. Bring on the ripe ol' age of 17.

Now, time to work.. and actually see where I end up. Straight A's ? It's possible :P

Career wise.. I'm looking at Journalism or something similar.  :P

Edit
Before I forget, I didn't fail any subjects... but I performed poorly in three... all of which were subjects I really didn't fancy doing in the first place.. hooray for stupid school system(s).

ART - E (Er, 2 years worth of coursework is sitting in my room.. oops)
Graphics - F (I was hoping for something a little more IT based, ended up with a lot of technical drawing.. not my strongest talent)
Spanish - E (Hey! I didn't even bother turning up for one of the exams... was never interested in wasting my time on this)

Pretty good going Sean :P

I got 5 As and 5 Bs at my GCSEs.

I got my A-level results last week.  Got an A in Economics and Bs in Maths and Psychology. Also got Bs in both of the AS levels I did, Computing and Theatre Studies.

Going at the end of September to do Economics at UEA (Uni in Norwich).  Really looking forward to it ;)

What A-levels are you planning to do Sean?

Possibly.

The reason I didn't get As in my French and German courses is mainly because I was overconfident going into them, and hence didn't revise even the beginnings of enough.

That'll be sorted out for my A2s (A-levels as they were back yonder), though, and I'll also be taking Early Modern History as an AS (I did Modern this time).

Either that or I stay safe and do a History degree and rely on my extra language abilities to get myself a place on a course, because most universities do courses based on Napoleon and (*sighs*) Weimar / Nazi Germany, both of which I'll be able to read the historical texts of when I finish my A2s.

I must say there are a lot of very good translations about the historical texts, so it isn't necessity to really understand the languages they were written, but I do understand very well that some people really want to read them in their original languages.

anyone seen comparison between english and chinese math exams? It was on BBC. was laughing at English ones. sorry, i just liked math and found them really easy peasy. plus i think the whole ex Yugoslavia had quite heavy math in highchool. i am not sure how it is now ,but often here we are taught  university level math in highschool which caused protest form parents and the like.... and i went WTF on the chinese ones with multiple dimensions to solve... i think there was even a reward offered on solving the chinese ones :P

anyway congratulations. i am sure you put a lot of effort in it . i hope you get to the Uni you want to. and i hope you have a great time there as once you start working life becomes quite dull. no more time for things, no mor einteresting yet often pointless debates. ;)

Mini-Update

Normally I wouldn't be so spamtastic, but the forums are a little quiet at the moment and I haven't the time or stamina to write a proper article/thread to discuss right now :P I hope nobody minds ;)

I've been formally accepted into my sixth-form/college and I've started to finalize the AS/A2 levels that I'll be taking. As it stands, I'll be starting out with 5 subjects to trial. Within the first three weeks I'll drop the fifth leaving a total of four AS courses for the first year. After the first block of exams, and the first year is completed I'll then cut down to three subjects to advance to A2 level of qualification.

As it stands I'll be starting with:
English
English Media
Law
Government and Politics
and Economics.

I think Economics is the most likely to drop, it was an option I didn't jump at straight away but really I'll cut down whatever I enjoy least. I'll mostly end up keeping English and English Media for A2. The third option, will be whatever I enjoy most at AS level.

So yeah, that's that. Boring news but news nonetheless!

@Prej - Good work on those AS levels, is it really as much work as they hype it to be? ;) Glad you did well on them, best of luck for A2. Are you keeping all four? Or cutting back to reduce the workload?

@Gregor - I agree that UK standards are lower than they should be, it only takes a few weeks with most teens to realize most if not all would acheive much more if they had higher aspirations for themselves. From what I've seen it's not so much the difficulty of the course's that are the problem or the quality of teaching but the lack of motivation on the student's part. I think in that respect the UK slacks behind more disciplined countries such as China. Of course I'm a poor guy in a poor area attending a poor school. It might be a totally different case elsewhere.

I didn't even know there was an A-level subject called 'English Media'... Good luck with it, though; I hope it all works out for you.;)
Is it normal to try out an extra AS level for a couple of weeks, by the way? I've never met anyone who did this. I think...

Concerning my own boring news, I'm still waiting to hear the verdict on my last-minute MA application. The course will begin in slightly over four weeks, though, so if they do want me, they'd better tell me about it soon, so I can book a flight and start to panic about accommodation...;)
