That wasn't an artifact, it was rhino armour of elvenkind, which will do nicely for a bunch of resistances and another stealth boost - nearly at the point where the orc camp is viable now. The phial showed up, too.

Hmm, scroll mimics as a random quest. Taking this one slowly, they're fairly nasty - one of them just managed to destroy a dagger which I'd pseudo-ID'd as excellent, which is rather irritating. That means it wasn't one of the naff artifact ones and therefore might actually have been useful, though it probably just had a slay.

EDIT: Heh, the orc camp was a pushover. I forget just how much easier it is with a high enough stealth to give you time to breathe.

By the way, how do you create character dumps? I'm still finding the commands a bit confusing...

Shift-C to open the character window, then File Character on the menu. I forget the shortcut - don't use it much ;)

Attached is an update.

Ah, right.:P

Here's my character dump, then. Any obvious mistakes I'm making?;)
Oh, and what am I supposed to do with all that money, by the way? Wait for a nice-looking artifact item to turn up at the black market?;)

Nothing obvious. Those are some nice objects, btw - especially the armour and gloves; your armour class is a lot higher than mine at the same level. I'd happily swap you a better weapon for one of those armour drops if that were possible - I'm getting nothing but ego weapons ;) The reason your "enemies killed" number is so much higher than mine looks to be that you're going a lot slower than me, which is fair enough. Those potions of cure light wounds won't be much use to you, except to remove negative effects like blindness - if you go much deeper than that or do any of the next block of quests you'll want to be carrying a potion of healing and/or a bunch of CSWs. You should start finding rods before long too - don't worry about zapping them in the dungeon to ID them, there aren't any negative ones that I'm aware of, and the earliest is usually one of trap detection, which is dead handy until your perception gets up. Do the gloves you're wearing provide free action? If not they'll be making your spell failure rate higher, though as a random artifact they're probably worth it.

That's pretty much it for the money, but you've got tons of it there. Basically, splash out on rods of <element> balls or teleport other if you see them, and grab any potions of <stat> (except wisdom since it's pretty useless for chaos warriors).
Oh, and don't forget you can eat rock - use that unless you're full rather than tunneling through rubble and into veins, as it fills the hunger meter. I'd leave the shovel at home with that ability.

Well, I've had some nice weapons (including artifact ones) turn up at the shops earlier, but I couldn't afford them back then.;)

Yes - this is the first character I've ever got to level 25, so I'd rather go a bit slow than risk getting killed for getting reckless too soon.
Of course the higher xp score and higher number of kills might also have something to do with the fact that this character was a half-titan until level 18.:P

Good point. Healing potions are actually a bit useless in combat, because my character's a skeleton now, so some of the potion always drips through his jaws and ends up healing the monsters he's fighting...

Hmm, I think they do - they "provide immunity to paralysis", and that means free action, right? At any rate I'm not getting the "your hands feel less suitable for spellcasting" message...

That's what I'll do, then. Thanks.:P So would you consider buying randomly generated nice weapons from shops to be a bad idea, then?

Even for skeletons?;)
The main reason I haven't used it, though, is that I haven't managed to figure out the shortcut. I wish the game had an in-game command list, like ADOM...:(

Abilities like that have to be 'U'sed. Good point about being a skeleton, I've never had that one as an undead before; worth a try still.

Not at all, especially when you've that much cash - I'm just used to getting them from random quests and patrons most of the time, and not being able to afford them ;)

True, but they'll have fewer hitpoints than you, and it matters a lot more if you get killed ;) Oh, try and carry a potion or two of speed too, but make sure you're not next to nasty monsters when you drink them - they can really cut the advantage some uniques have in that regard or make running away much easier.

That's the one. The "flags" tab on the 'C'haracter screen is a good place to check out what abilities you've got or are missing, since it lists them and highlights the ones you've got (and tells you where from).

Whoa, it works.;) Almost a bit too well, actually; my character ended up gorging himself on a single square of rock. I suppose it'll save me having to carry scrolls of satisfy hunger, but I doubt it's very practical for tunnelling...

Oooh, an actual artifact! The Large Leather Shield of Bobble, no less. A randart [6,+16] and +4 to stealth (even more stealthy!). Probably a sustain or a resistance too, will have to *id* it.

EDIT: Sound resistance. Meh, could've been better, but definitely an improvement on the redundant resist fire shield I had previously.

Troll pit on 21, including a couple of types I've never encountered before (that explains the "visions of death" feeling), and they've barely scratched me - loving these stats ;)

Artifacts are, clearly, like buses. Barukkheled and the Spear of Hagen on the same level. Hagen himself dropped the former (ironically in some sense) after disenchanting my defender flail a couple of times, then Angamaite dropped the spear. Blanked my memory though, the bugger.

Gah, now Alberich's shown up. I hate disenchanting mosters...

Double gah. Now a nexus hound managed to teleport me to the next level down, leaving Alberich (and his drops) with a shedload of my cash, the thieving get.
Heh, there's something special about it though ;)

No idea what was generating that, there were a couple of uniques down there but nothing that special. Hope that doesn't mean I missed something. EDIT: D'oh, it was a sword - I just didn't see the feeling notification... Next level is full of lava and yet another troll pit, with some nastier trolls (priests and water trolls. Oooh, and half-trolls and an Olog) this time. The lava's keeping them at a distance nicely, though.

Gah. I nearly got my character killed trying to do that fumes quest (I managed to read a scroll of word of recall in the nick of time) and then I ran into hordes of leprechauns who stole lots of money and pink horrors(?) who kept casting confusing spells.;) I suppose I'll need to find a source of confusion resistance...

Fumes is toughish, but worth it if you can manage it - the reward, if I remember rightly, is the Everglowing Light of Edison. Leprechauns are really nasty because they're both thieves and breeders. Prime candidates for blasing quickly with area spells. Horrors are best fought in a corridor, though you'll get prevented from running away. Hit the pink ones with mana burst when you're afraid and melee the blue ones when confused. If you get both effects, low-level healing effects will clear them. Some races and all warriors get the ability to remove fear at some point, but you can't use it when confused. Confusion resistance is pretty hard to come by, which is one of the reasons beastmen are neat - they get it as an intrinsic.

Attached is me so far - not half bad. Want to mop up this level (those trolls should drop a lot of loot, which is why I'm not hitting them with the wand of acid balls), then going back to do the doom quest (keep getting distracted by promising levels) and maybe have a go at old man willow, with my staffs of sleep monsters - that one has a really tough start with tons of enemies, then finishes up pretty easily once you get past them. The dark elven lords quest which follows it will be dead easy at this point (I've fought several of them and a dweller on the threshold already, and have stocked up a wand of stone-to-mud to deal with the livingstone in there quickly).

EDIT: Pit clear. Most of the loot's on lava though, which is a bit of a pain. That sword was Orcrist - not much use at this stage, but worth a bit of cash.

Heh. Having killed a dragon from too far away (was worried about it breathing at me), I'm now faced with the prospect of having to fetch its dropped chest and suit of armour from the middle of a pool of lava. Time to drop everything heavy, grab the chest and hightail it back to dry land before opening it.

That, and another chest round the corner, plus the remainder of the pit treasure, and what do I get out of it? An amulet of charisma (worth equipping in town to get better deals, even if it is a bit of a pain), a few enchanted weapons and a main gauche of extra attacks. Woop de doo. The rod of polymorph goes some way to making up for it.

Just remembered where you can get confusion resistance - the Old Man Willow reward is a ring of it. There was a scroll of Acquirement in there too, yay! Also did the Dark Elven Lords quest; the Everglowing Light is a far sight better than the Phial of Galadriel, plus one of the lords dropped a top-quality artifact helm (Holhenneth) and I bought some natty boots from a store. Still looking for some gloves with free action now; that's not one I ought to be missing at this point.
