I don't tend to watch much TV of my own volition, but lately I've found myself near-addicted to several shows.
  • House - Hugh Laurie. He's brilliant. 'Nuff said.
  • Heroes - There's something really engaging about this show, despite the fact that it's sort of a visual clone of the X-Men plot meets anime-style characterization. Of course, it could be that I actually like X-Men and anime. My favorite characters are Hiro Nakamura (he's awfully endearing), and Peter Petrelli (hot AND endearing).
  • Ugly Betty - Spanish soap opera meets intelligence, wit, humor, and a refreshingly unattractive female lead.
  • Men In Trees - Liking this show is my (not-so as of this moment) secret shame. It's definitely a Very Girly Show about hot guys (and subsequent relationships with them) in Alaska. I can't help but liking it anyway. It's funny and sweet.
That's 4 hours a week of my life that are getting sucked into the boob-tube. It almost makes me wish that reality shows were still dominating the networks. Those are much easier to avoid like the plague.

What shows do you watch (if any), and why?

Rome was pretty good, if a little OTT - I enjoyed lots of the Latin graffiti though ("Atia Amat Omnes" :ok:). I didn't get into Ugly Betty simply because it clashed with something else; might give it a try. A genuinely ugly lead, rather than a beautiful woman in lots of makeup and bad braces, would've been more refreshing though. At the minute I'm looking forward to the next series of Doctor Who, and watching Desperate Housewives (or I was, until Never Mind The Buzzcocks started again at the same time. Damn lack of recording equipment.) and Mock the Week (great improv/stand-up from the guys behind WLIIA). I'm downloading Rex the Runt and the 8th series of Whose Line as we speak too - Rex the Runt is absolute genius (and impossible to buy).
I meant to watch Louis Theroux the other day too, but forgot to. Gah.

Rome. It's an excellent show, with an extremely high production value.
Deadwood, also by HBO, also high production value.

Now, if only HBO would get cracking on A Song of Ice and Fire. :ok:
Furthermore, it is my opinion that Carthage must be destroyed.

What about documentaries? I think that at least 50% of the time I watch TV I watch one of the documentary channels like NG, Discovery or Travel. I especially like music documentaries(like Scorcese's Blues serie).

I actually watch quite a lot of documentaries, especially from our national broadcasting company. Mostly they are top-class and still entertaining and nearly ever too explanatory or too difficult to understand. But I didn't realize to mention them as both before me spoke only of different series. Stupid me... :ok:

I watched Buffy & Angel.  They were the best thing on tv as far as I'm concerned.  I would love to see new episodes of them.

Family Guy and American Dad whenever I can catch it, old Simpsons, and just Edmonton Oiler hockey games (it's television, granted sports but still TV! :ok:) sometimes if I remember this gaming show Electric Playground, again if I remember. Used to watch a lot of wrestling, but have dropped that this past year, since lack of time.

Wish to catch Heroes and Ugly Betty, since have heard rave comments about both, but alas keep forgetting to record em.

I know it's by the same guy - Joss Wheedon - but I never liked Firefly.  I just couldn't get into it.  Dunno why.    :ok:

The only SF I find worth watching is Battlestar Galactica.

If I had cable, the only thing I'd watch is CSPAN and CSPAN II (for those of you who aren't American, those are the channels that document what goes on in Congress, and sometimes even Parliament in Britain). I know for sure because whenever I'd be alone in the house (and thus had no one to eat with), I'd have a tv dinner (or lunch, if you like), and all I'd watch were those channels. I'd watch G4 every so often, but only if X-Play was on, which it usually was not. It was rather humorous when I'd tell people this when I was in high school, as their jaw would drop to the "flo" in incredulity, and would immediately proclaim I was a 60-year old man trapped in a teenager's body.

Then again, if I had Scifi, I'd probably spend a lot more time watching tv. I can't resist watching the original Star Trek and even TNG every now and then, and I absolutely adore the Outer Limits (the new ones, of course), among other scifi shows/movies. I watched/loved Serenity, but haven't had the opportunity to watch Firefly yet. :ok:

If you enjoyed Serenity, which was like an actiony Firefly with a significant budget, it's definitely worth watching. The weird Sci-Fi/Western thing takes some getting used to at first, but the cast are very good and it creates a great feeling of living on the (Final) frontier - very claustrophobic when it ought to be.
