A.J - I thought that you were doing English lit, not Danish! Or is it Old English lit, so you have to see the roots from Danish, German and I imagine a bit of Latin?
I'm doing both, actually. My first subject is English Lit (and I had to do Old English as well, although I'm not too fluent in all that Hige sceal že heardra, heorte že cenre,
mod sceal že mare, že ure męgen lytlaš
stuff anymore). We didn't have to read any Latin texts, though - we even read extracts from Bede in an Old English translation, which was extremely weird...
Scandinavian Lit is my second subject, so I had to do Norwegian and a bit of Swedish. I've only got a working knowledge of Danish, though - i.e. I can read Danish texts, but I'd only be able to talk to Flop in a kind of pidgin Norwegian which he might or might not be able to understand :) - but I picked a Danish author for one of my topics, so I'll have to read him in Danish, obviously. We have to pick authors from at least two different countries and I was crazy enough to choose Strindberg (Swedish) and Andersen (Danish) instead of having at least one Norwegian author on the list. Can't remember why I did that, but now I can't change it anymore.

Bleh, you can't have that long to continue on them I imagine and sometimes you have to stick to the decisions that you've made, regardless of whether they were a good idea or not.

I dunno... I was about 3 months away from completing a double major when I left college to take a semester off, I never finished, and I'm doing fairly well...

of course, the only reason I didn't go back to finish was because my dad withdrew all financial support because he was ticked off that I took a semester off ;)

Now, he's so desperate for me to finish my degree, he's offered to pay anything to get me to go back. But by this time, I've had enough real-world experience to realize that my planned degree was fairly useless :)  I'm considering another track, though.

No, parents don't make sense.

And really, neither do I ;)

Gotta agree with ya on the parents thing. ;)

I don't want to do a 'poor me' routine (though I will), but your father sounds marvellous to me.  My mother (and stepfather) wouldn't even allow me to finish High School, even though I was doing well, and even though I begged my mother to allow me to finish.  It sounds as though your Dad loves you.  My mother detested me and couldn't get rid of me fast enough.

*hugs*

My dad actually hates me for not being a perfect little lady. He thinks I'm deficient for being a geek and not wearing dresses and trying to get married to a rich man.

I'm sure he loves me, too, but appearances are the most important thing to him.

But yes, yours sounds much worse :)

I actually came back to delete my previous message as I wondered if it sounded like implied criticism.  It wasn't...just me getting tragic over parental issues.  ;)  Thanks for being understanding.  Parents by nature like to criticise, but I bet if anyone criticised you to him, he'd come out fighting and defending.  He's proud of ya.

Talk about the title of this topic...I've been in a weird mood lately....so irritable and cranky.  Even if I'm sitting cosily beside the computer I feel so uptight at everything and nothing.  What the hell is wrong with me?  :)

General boredom and too much same-old, I guess. I get that too, if there hasn't been anything to keep from the daily stuff.

And I don't think anybody's parents'd be as bad as yours, Wendy. If it's any comfort, it's helping others by seeing things could've been worse.

While we're on the topic of parents...

Quote

SORRY, MOM AND DAD
Well, you came into this world naked, screaming and covered in blood-who was there to wipe you off and give you your first hug?
And it took a couple years to figure out how to not *crapola* in your pants
but someone was there to clean you up and powder off your rash
It's been them from the start, the ones you tortured and broke their hearts
the two that you hate- the two that you blame- the very same ones that
gave you your name

Remember the time you were five and you lied about who broke your lamp?
Who were the ones that sat you down and gave you a second chance?
It's been them from the start, the ones you tortured and broke their hearts
the two that you hate- the two that you blame- the very same ones that
gave you your name

CHORUS:
Go home to Mom and Dad and say you're sorry, It's the least that you can do, after all you've put them through. Oh, come on. Beg Mom and Dad's forgiveness, they deserve it.
Even if you don't mean it, make them believe you that it's true.
And when they offered you up all that great advise, you just screamed "*meep* you, both- and let me live my life! I'm gonna go out drinking with my friends have unprotected sex, pierce my nose and get a tattoo of a dragon on my neck!"

CHORUS:
Call Mom and Dad and finally say you're sorry, It's the least that you can do, after all you've put them through. Oh, come on. Beg Mom and Dad's forgiveness, they deserve it.
Even if you don't mean it, make them believe you that it's true.
Cuz now your 35 and working in a warehouse cuz you spent your college money on cocaine.
And the shame of your existence is ever so persistent cuz you know your
parents tried
and you're to blame- you're to blame, cuz

It's been the from the start, the ones you tortured and broke their hearts
the two that you hate- the two that you blame- the very same ones that
gave you your name

CHORUS:
Go home to Mom and Dad and say your sorry, It's the least that you can do, after all you've put them through. Oh, come on. Beg Mom and Dad's forgiveness, they deserve it.
Even if you don't mean it, make them believe you that it's true.

the cops came and treated the damn house like a crime scene.

So your mother is guilty of what happened to your grandmother ? ;)  That can't be true. That can only be true in my family ;)

e.g. on the left is my mother and on the right my grandmother
;)  :)

Today the school started for me. One of my teachers almost started to cry when saw us ;) , but not of happiness. ;) Even our teachers are sad that the school started. ;) (but they are more sad that they need to come to my class :) )

Thanks for that, Kon Tiki.   :)

I've just had the most amazing luck, however.  I was emailed a gift certificate to entice me to bid on a jewellery auction site.  I couldn't resist and won a valuable ring for the amount of the gift certificate.  It's a gold/sapphire and diamond one.  My mother has always felt I don't do anything for her, so I'm going to send her this.  If this doesn't bring a smile.... ;)
