I can't be the only one who is, to this day, infatuated with this game.  In all seriousness, I look forwad to the day that I have some sort of Shadow Run/William Gibson inspired, hardwared, neurally interfacing computer rattling around in my body so that I can run Megaman in a little window at the lower left hand corner of my field of vision whenever I'm awake.

In fairness, that's a lie.

It would be the right hand corner.

I've been replaying all of the games on the XBox courtesy of the collector's disc that has all of the games (or at least the ones released in the US of A).  Other than some annoying screen flicker in the original Mega Man, it's been nearly as good as I remember it from my youth.  That's a pretty powerful statement for me considering most of the games I played back in the day seem to have been enhanced by memory.  For instance, I remember Star Control looking something like the rendered scenes in the new Star Wars movies.  This is one of the chief reasons I don't play Star Control anymore.

But back on point, Mega Man, the original and fiendishly difficult in places game definitely deserves a place on the list.

It's a great series and had it's moments, still like 2 as one of the best of the series myself, really think Capcom should go back to the original series, enough of X and the other spinoffs for awhile.

Spot on assessment.  I'm still working through Mega Man and Mega Man 2 right now.  I missed some of the later titles, but remember playing one with X in it for the SNES(?)

I'm sure I'll end up posting something more detailed once I wrap up....

Well there were actually 3 X titles on the snes and another 3 or 4 on the psone from the X series, although granted they have gone further with some spinoffs too.

There is a freeware magaman x. I didn't play it, but that isn't a reason you wouldn't like to.
