Well, I was tired to hear people praising Aasimov and me not being able to reply anything 'cause I didn't give it a shot, so I bought Fondation 1 and read halfway through it this afternoon. I've got to say I was unimpressed. Maybe it's one of those things where it eventually gets somewhat better, but the overall style (lack of, that is) and feeling of immersion (lack of, that is) just left me wishing he was a little more talented.
Dan Simons is better in so many ways it's just ridiculous to try and confront them.
Do any of you liked it and feel like I'm missing something ?

Old topic but thought I'd add my 2 cents. Issac Asimov's Foundation novels are great stuff but i'ts not conventional sci-fi. There are many political themes (many that are somewhat irrelevant) that run throughout the story but the key element lies in the moral themes that span over the series of books. If you started, I say stick to it, it's a worthy read. Btw the best book in the series IMO is Foundation and Earth.

never had enough motivation to read it.
After reading the first pages I figured that the author and I were incompatible.
