Explore a city, and do what you want. Date a citizen, get married, buy drugs, explore a haunted house, rob a bank, and more. Featuring a day/night system, and a clock. Choose from one of 36 characters to play as. Then during the game, find and unlock more characters to play as. There are over 10 special characters you can play as. Most from pop culture (films, tv, and video games). Play forever, or live the life of a character. From being a criminal, to being a romantic. You can also choose to enjoy the main map in full color, or play in classic retro black and white.

I decided to make something that I would enjoy making. No, it's not your typical game. This game is an open world, nonlinear free-roaming RPG. One large map of a city to explore, with many buildings to go into. Go to the beach, stay at the inn, talk with the citizens, and even do criminal activities.

The game is one of those "try everything" games. As a stranger in the city, you can pretty much do anything. Watch TV, pickpocket citizens, steal from mailboxes, rob a bank, find a hidden switch that lets you change the weather..

It's a dating sim. It's an adventure game, with quests. It's lots of different games rolled into one.

The game has "guest characters" or "easter eggs" to find throughout the game. From playing as Captain Jack, to playing as Voldemort. There are plenty of things to find.

You could just explore the city, get married, and stay on the light side. Or, you could steal, hire a prostitute, and buy drugs. The game allows players to do what they want, without a story. It encourages players to write their own story.

I wanted to use the default RTP graphics, with some extra sets I've found on the internet. I wanted a classic Gameboy retro style, with colorful flare.

This is also my most technically advanced game.

Features:
-Play the main map in color, or black and white.
-Day/Night system with Day, Dusk, Night, and Dawn. Time advances as you play.
-Large map to explore.
-Islands that can be found via transportation.
-Shops
-Plenty of NPC's to chat with.
-Two NPC's the player can date. One female, one male. Gender doesn't matter. So gay and lesbian relationships are possible.
-Compatibility with Windows XP/Vista/7 and Linux via WINE.

This looks great!  I love the idea of playing it one way, then being able to go back and play it a completely different way.

It will be great being able to try different things, and explore the place, and just have fun.  And the day\night cycle adds depth to it... like time is really advancing, and days or weeks pass by.  :jrpac:

Love the screenshots Nick.  :balloon:

Can't wait to see more of this.

EDIT #1:

Some new features have been added to the game. First off, moving transparent clouds. This gives off the feeling of watching the city from above. It also makes the graphics pop.

Also added, a clock. The clock can be accessed any time during the game by hitting the shift key. It displays the game's fictional time, and also the actual real time the player has spent playing the game.

The game is also now listed on RPGMaker.net. http://rpgmaker.net/games/3571/

Gameplay Video #2

This video shows the player releasing animals, by opening gates. The farmer reacts to the player opening the gates.

In total, there are 36 characters to choose from on start.

But there's also another easter egg in the game. Access the Maelstrom, and you can play as Captain Jack. Just another one of the hidden areas in the game.

This video shows off the ability to play the main map/city area in black and white. It's a throwback to the retro Gameboy games of years ago. Feels like you're playing a classic RPG..

Featuring the Captain Jack easter egg character.
