My DV is 40, but my PV is only 11. The Shadows kept getting critical hits every now and then, but I'm sure I killed around 50 before it started getting too hot. Had to turn invisible and flee.

*edit*
Killed by a lone Hydra... Discovered that I got the Lucky and Cursed intrisic... must've been from a pool I drank from like eight times....

Quitting counts as a death, I think.

@MdaG: Invisibility helps a lot at the dwarven graveyard, but you really should try to improve your PV anyway.

the GB says you need 100 hiscore entries. "Quitting does not yield a highscore entry."

I dont have water breathing or swimming... do you think my 210 HP are enough to teleport to blups mom... chat with her... teleport to the exit and leave?

i know i can get swimming... but id rather keep the carrot juice

But can't you just change the config file accordingly?:max:

Not even a ring of the fish? If you've got controlled teleportation and invisibility, you should be able to survive as long as you don't waste any turns walking around. Just teleport next to Blup's mum, talk to her and teleport back to the exit.

went to darkforge which was cool because i completly cleared it out (except for that dwarf dude who almost knocked the crap out of me). got the crown of science which is nice because of the fire immunity but kinda sucks because of the auto-cursing, dooming, and bad luck. (is it worth using? or should i use it when i REALLY need fire immunity?) Found 2 phase daggers.... of course they dont help me one bit . still have to identify the armors but i think its all crap

2 crap things:

got my first ever corruption in darkforge: Tough Scales (well i got that PV at least :P)

Lost a point of strength from drinking from a pool  :max:

i guess all in all its all going good but im really scared of corruptions and dont really know how to deal with them. im really trying to find an amulet of life saving for khevlastar (reason i drank from pool) to get those scrolls. i have a single potion of cure corruption stored in dwarftown and i can go get that scroll in the mountain village but thats all i have for now. is corruption a real problem or does one find enough stuff against it?

Any tips on how one deals with giant slugs? My lvl 13 drakh priest was nearly dissolved by one (I fled). It took my mithril broadsword too  :max: . As I soon as I find a replacement weapon I'm going for Keethrax. Any tip on how to deal with him AWGB says use acid so I think I will, anything else I need to keep in mind?

I've decided to skip drinking from pools entirely. It's far too risky.

Slugs:

dont really know... i just bash the crap out of em'. the corpses give acid immunity which is cool.

Keethrax:

Magic Missile and Brute force "kinda" work. hes a stat drainer so be careful.

Potions of Cure Corruption and Scrolls of Chaos Resistance can get rid of them.  One of them is better than the other, but I don't remember which.  They're both pretty rare, so make sure to bless them before use!

Spells and missile weapons can hit them before they get close enough to do too much damage.  If you have to go toe-to-toe, stone weapons and crystal weapons won't corrode...I think.  I also believe the higher metals (mithril, adamantium, and eternium, in that order) won't corrode as easily as iron, but they will corrode eventually, as you found out.
Today is a good day for pie.

I've never lost a character to corruption, actually. The scrolls Khelavaster can give you aren't the only ones in the game: if you're neutral, there's a chance that the dwarven mystic will give you a few scrolls of chaos resistance, going to the library (make sure you've got stealth before you go there, though) and delivering the weird tome will also give you some (cursed) scrolls, the druid will give you a potion of cure corruption for each corpse of an orb guardian you deliver to him, then there's pickpocketing, the casino shop (all shops, in fact) and of course wishes. If you're playing a highly literate type of character (say a wizard or a druid), you'll be better of wishing for magical writing sets, so you can write scrolls of chaos resistance yourself. It'll drain your mana stat, but you can easily get that up again by casting expensive spells like petrification or death ray in the wilderness and waiting for your pp to regenerate. And if all else fails and you have far too many corruptions, you can do the unicorn quest and ask the unicorn to remove all your corruptions.
By the way: If you prefer playing lawful characters, they'll be corrupted even more slowly than my neutrals.

The crown of science is very useful for learning spells from a book, but I wouldn't wear in in the ToEF if I were you, because the cursing and dooming makes monsters tougher and increases the chance of item destruction (that includes fireproof blankets) you also won't be able to use an emergency prayer to be healed.

@MdaG: Acid resistance helps, obviously, but you're finding melee combat too tough, you could try shooting the slugor  with missiles zapping it with a spell - not acid bolt, obviously.:max:
Pool drinking can be fun later in the game, when you've got items that'll give you teleport control in case you pick up teleportitis and when you can easily get rid of dooming by sacrificing a few coins.

Hehee! Just started random character: female hurthling peasant born in Cup! I was like oh no... no use to even try. Of course I aimed to Treasure Hunter and got it as I had just 3 talents. Well, now I'm not quite sure how unplayable this is, as it levels fast, has decent stats and wields brutal short sword (+0, 2d6) at VD 1! :max:
...70 years... LOL

By the way, you don't need to get treasure hunter straight away. Provided you chose alert at the beginning you can always get it later.

Farmers make surprisingly nice characters, actually. My easiest win so far was with an elven farmer. As a farmer you should try to train pole arms, though, as they get a bonus for that, I think.

Farmers get a 20% bonus for increasing polearm weapon skills.  Combined with the star sign that makes weapon traninig easier this can make you very skilled indeed.

Oh, and I think I've taken the "worst game" crown from Tom:

Aryaremo, the high elven assassin, was annihilated by divine wrath.
She scored 0 points and advanced to level 9.
[Ok, to be honest: she scored -12776 points!]
She survived for 0 years, 3 days, 10 hours, 48 minutes and 16 seconds (6307
turns).
Aryaremo visited 12 places.
Her strength score was modified by +2 during her career.
Her learning score was modified by +1 during her career.
Her willpower score was modified by -2 during her career.
Her toughness score was modified by +4 during her career.
Her appearance score was modified by +5 during her career.
Her perception score was modified by -8 during her career.
She ended her adventuring life on level 3 of a dangerous cave at the
Drakalor Pass.
237 monsters perished under her attacks.
She possessed the following intrinsic:
  She was doomed.
She had the following talents: Alert, Miser, Quick, Treasure Hunter, Very
Quick.
She had a final speed score of 117 (final base speed: 117).
She was hated by Corellius.
She asked for 16 divine interventions.
She was lawfully aligned.

I was actually doing very well indeed.  Then I read a scroll of amnesia (I was very hungry at the time, and i was was hoping it might be a scroll of satiation).  praying didn't work ("Mortal, ye art a nuisance!").  I found a co-aligned altar (while starving) so I set about sacrificing all the stuff I possibly could to raise piety.  It didn't work.  so I decided to constantly pray, all my stuff was cursed, my equipment turned to dust, I was doomed, etc, etc.  Then I got zapped.

The only offensive spells I have are Divine Wrath and Acid bolt. I've tried both but neither seemed to affect the slug. Zapped it trice with a lightning bolt, but nada... I should find some crossbow or similar and practice missile weapons. ID next then :max:
