@Beef: promising character, nice equipment - how on earth were you killed by a couple of frogs? Did you forget to apply first aid after you started to bleed?huh.gif A prayer would probably have saved you. The character's looking pretty good overall, though.ok.gif But you might want to train missiles a bit more next time - and get your healing skill up to 100 asap.
The frogs probably finished me off, a hydra got me mainly.
Didn't get chance to train missiles much, equipped a cursed crossbow early on and had 1 quarrel which disappeared afeter a single use, which was extremely irritating. Not being able to get a feel for the quality of items with most chracters is the most annoying thing for me in ADoM compared with Angband. That character got healing quite late, too, attempted the puppy quest first only to have it set off a trap or something and top itself. Bah.

Bloody hell Ogre Magus can be tough opponent! On the other hand I didn't take care of my HPs so he manages to kill my DE Priestess without offensive spells. :ot:

Sorry for double posting, but does necromancer's animated corpses give you xp? I guess they don't, but I'd rather know it.

I think most companions give you XP for their kills.  However, I remember reading somewhere that necromancer's slaves are the exception to this, I may be thinking of something else though.

You need to have an anvil* in your inventory, wield a hammer and find a forge. Then you'll need something to improve - weapons or armour - and lots of ingots (which can be got from ore). To smith, you stand on the forge and use the smithing skill. Your chances of successfully improving an item depend on how high your smithing skill is, and there are certain limits as to how far any given item can be improved. Smithing takes a lot of time and you need some amount of patience, but it is actually quite powerful. Don't even bother to try improving an item before your smithing skill is at 100, though. Until then, you'd better train the skill by melting ore into ingots.

*anvils are fairly rare, but an easy way of getting both an anvil and access to a forge is to teleport Glod away from his forge, lure him down the stairs (might be tricky) and kill him.

That sounds like an ally worth having! Naah, necros seem to be soooo weak in every way that I can't survive longer than 5.2765 seconds! Naah, actually my necro was hurthling making it double hard. But then I came across a wild idea... troll necro? *goes trying*

It'll take quite a while until you'll actually be able to use the necromancy skill, though, as trolls have low intelligence and mana stats.

Has anybody tried Adom Sage? Its a front-end that changes the interface a little... (in no way does it change the actual game!). It does stuff like coloured messages, has a more detailed spell screen and it is MUCH MUCH faster than the dos version when you run it on XP.

Id give it a try. i started using it and ill probably stick to it. sadly i dont have a link so youll have to look for it if interested. the main site is down but a friend found it on one of the adom groups.

(another thing... it also changed the # walls to those blocky things.... DONT WORRY! it can all be changed in a config file... so even if you dont like ANY of the changes id still use it just for the speed increase)

edit: another nice and "must-be-mentioned" feature is that you can automatically switch places with neutral creatures.... no more "do you wish to attack -foo- [y/n]"

now if you want to attack them then i guess you just gotta find out how though :) or turn off the feature... oh and another big thing would be the adding of macros :ot:

Faster... Than the Dos version?

When I use ADOM on XP without anything else, it's actually way too fast for my taste. Why would I want it even faster? I use DOSBox especially because I want to turn it slower...  :ot:
