ok i got the staff of the wanderer... great artifact... but ive been training swords (i have an adamantium frozen scimitar ) plus i have a adamantium large shield (+10 +3)

so what do you guys think i should do? use the staff? or keep on training swords and shields?

What level are you, where are you and what's the difference in terms of DV/PV?

ok im level 9 on the second level of the keethrax dungeon. i have level 6 in swords and two handed weapons. level 2 or 3 in shields.

The shield is (+10 +2)

the artifact:

------------- staff of the Wanderer (+2, 3d8+2) [+6,+3] {To+6} -------------

Weight: 40s

When worn it modifies DV by +6 and PV by +3.

When used in melee combat it grants a +2 bonus to hit and causes 3d8+2
points of damage. When used as a missile it grants a +0 bonus to hit
and causes 1d2 points of damage.

It modifies your toughness attribute by +6.
It grants immunity to shock attacks.
It grants resistance to fire.
It grants resistance to sleep attacks.



sadly i dont know what immunity i got... it would make the choice easier.

No, I meant what is your DV/PV when you're wielding the sword and the shield and what's your DV/PV when you're wielding the staff?

Sword and shield: 34/14 at normal tactics

Staff: 21/17 at normal tactics

(oh and i do have level 4 in shields)

Like I just said in the shoutbox, I'd stick to the sword for now. The ice attack won't give you any bonus against Keethrax, but the DV/PV is better. One-handed weapons and shields are nearly always better than two-handed weapons, but if you want to use the staff, you should try to gain some weaponmarks in a safe place (like the first levels of the ID) before proceeding to the Caverns of Chaos.

i already defeated keethrax (and like a million cats   ) before the crowning. im sticking with the sword and shield i guess... i can give it to the demented ratling

You should use the wait command. It's simple, you either hit "w" with a direction or hit "w" with the "." and you will be either moving in the direction for 50 steps and stop if you meet an hostile monsters or arrive at an intersection, or wait for up to 50 steps or until something else happen.

Only if you're a crowned chaotic, but I suppose you are. Keep in mind, though, that an ultra ending's no longer possible for you if you get crowned that early, so selling it to Waldenbrook might be a better way of getting rid of it. Of course you could also just keep carrying around with you and use it whenever you encounter something weak, like a tension room of rats or so.

Sorry for double-posting, but just as a quick reminder: today is New Year's Eve, so any character you create today will start with six potions of booze that can be used to recharge wands or that can be swapped for six random potions if given to the fool in Terinyo.
