"MORTAL, YE HAVE PESTERED ME FOR TOO LONG!" - summons solars/spectres/greater daemons
"Mortal, ye art a pest." A bolt of -damage type- hits you!
"*I* hereby punish thee, puny mortal" - equipment turned to dust
"You feel bad... very bad." - same piety level as above, dooming results if no equipment
"Take this for ye impunity!" - inventory cursed
"Mortal, you are a nuisance!"
You hear -deity- grumbling in anger.
For some seconds the ground rumbles.
Nothing else happens.
-deity- seems to be unconcerned.
-deity- seems to be pleased.
-deity- seems to be very pleased with you. - deity will bless water dropped on altar
You feel inner strength lifting you spirits. - same piety level as inner peace, deity grants the Lucky intrinsic, occurs only if the PC didn't have the Lucky intrinsic
You feel inner peace. - see above message about inner strength
You burn with the anticipation of power - chaotic equivalent of inner peace
You feel spiritually invincible.
You feel very close to -deity- - deity removes Cursed/Doomed intrinsics if present ("You feel a terrible gloom being lifted from you"), grants Fate Smiles intrinsic
You feel extremely close to -deity- - (pre/post)crowning possibility
-deity- seems to be absolutely close to you - the PC is eligible for crowning: correct alignment and the highest level of piety

edit: The GB does wonders :bleh:

So I have to keep on sacrificing... and long! Well, no problem, my Dark Elf Priestess has nothing better to do! :w00t:

PS: Has anyone noticed that I can play only DE Priestesses? :bleh:

Raffles I got another question:

It is stated somewhere that Wizards need longer to train weapon skills (either GB or Manual)... does that only count for wizards or for Necromancers and Elementalists as well?

Daka, GB?

Anyhow, I'm now heading to CoC as I got bored to try to improve my status in my deity's eyes. I guess I sacrificed like 50 creatures alive and not much improvement. And it's costing me money, you know? No food preservation, so I usually have to buy my food and 30gp per large ration comes somewhat expensive in the end. Now I hope to find my deity's altar from CoC and get my status improved there.

Pure spellcasters (ie, wizards, elementalists and necromancers) need twice as many marks than normal to raise weapon skills.  Semi-spellcasters, priests and druids, need 50% more than other classes.

EDIT: That's from the official manual.

Raffles is the +10 speed of the month of the...raven(?) worth it?

the reason i ask is because yes... im a birthmonth scummer... but sorry.. if i want to play a wizard i want to play a wizard and im not going to wait untill 15 chars die untill i get the month i need to be one

(very big fault of ADoM in my opinion)
It's quite useful, I'd say, especially in early game if you're playing a slightly weaker character and have to run away from nasty monsters like a bunch of jackals or a swamp hydra. I'm not sure whether it would be worth scumming for, though.

By the way, I'm better than the guidebook because I only spoil you if you specifically ask for it.:D If you read the guidebook, you're bound to come across other spoilers as well. On the other hand, though, you might as well read it; there are lots of people who have read the entire guidebook but still haven't won the game.:bleh:

i count in that category :bleh:.... like i said i REFUSE to run away from anything. the only kind of running away i do is running away.. closing a door... healing half my HP... getting paranoid about food and game time... then going back to get trounced :w00t:

as ive said before i think its completly legit to read the whole guidebook. i think roguelikes are made for guidebook creating and reading :D

edit:

ok im gonna go for my first:

Healing month, Troll, Healing Trait, Healer guy... see how this goes

The effect of the healing trait becomes negligible, though. But a candle-born trollish healer will heal at an enormous rate anyway.
You refuse to run away no matter what? That's valiant but foolish.:bleh:

A question about strenght.

My Troll Barbarian now has 41 in strength, with a maximum of 52.

Now the question:
How do I enhance my strength further? Herbs won't help me, I think, as I am above 25. Same goes for carrying stuff, I think.

However, my Barbarian went from 39 to 40 while I was walking. Thus the question... How did that happen? :bleh:

I didn't do anything - apart from normal hacking and slashing and levelling.

I think carrying stuff does continue to train strength, it's just that your chances of getting a strength increase are pretty slim once you're past a certain level. Another explanation would be that you drank from a pool and trained strength that way.

You can raise your strength further by paying Garth (if you have money to burn, that is) or by drinking blessed potions of strength or gain attributes if you're lucky enough to find them.

Well, I did drink from a pool earlier, but I "only" got permanent invisibility and the ability to see invisible things :D

So now I am carrying around 20 Large Rations as an invisible Troll has a tendency of getting hungry fast :bleh:

Permanent invisibility doesn't have an effect on how soon you get hungry, only invisibility acquired through artifacts or items does. But you'll need less food once you get crowned.

Question to A.J. :bleh:

I met a lone hydra, and I can choose to either evade or fight. What would you recommend?

Edit:
I took the chance of entering the scene with him, as I am pretty fast and invisible, hoping that I can run away if needed.

Here are my stats:

Level 7 Troll Barbarian
St: 42
LE: 6
Wi: 9
Dx: 14
To: 32
Ch: 1
Ap: 3
Ma: 1
Pe: 14 C
DV/PV: 32/11
H: 126(126)
P: 0(0)
Sp: 105

I am invisble. I can see invisible stuff. I am Posion resistant.

Special Items that I am wearing:
Uncursed Stone Amulet
Blessed Leather Armor of Speed
Uncursed Wooden Ring
Cursed Vibrating Ring
Uncursed Red Gauntlets

You should be able to handle it now, but if you possibly can kill it from a distance just to be safe.
