Rescue or kill Yrrigs, read the manual, and acquire the Bridge Building skill.  You may as well forget about getting to the puppy before it dies, though; there's no way you'll get the bridge built in time.

The best option for crossing rivers is freezing them with magic (like the frost bolt spell) but that's not always possible.  Go for bridge builidng (though due to the need for logs that's not always possible).  Or you could builid up lots of Hp and then get across as fast as you can.  Careful of your stuff rusting though.

I've tried being a human, it sucks. I last much longer as an elf due to the suckness of the human's base learning skill. Sure, they have a higher toughness, but it's just not worth losing the bonus skill gain between levels, especially not since the strength and health tend to be about the same.

For me, I level like crazy as an elven priestess, killing everything that comes near me by retreating into a hallway and taking them one at a time, and then it's something like climbing downstairs into a room full of blink dogs + wererat, being stuck in the middle of the room while they summon buddies, not having a decent ranged attack spell to get to the actual summoners (and missile weapons are useless).

And then there was the time I had to get past an unavoidable room full of already-spawned ants in the second level (and for some reason, I can't hit ants without a spell).

This time in the puppy cave, rather than the quite dangerous small cave.

there are ALWAYS ants on the secon level of the PC... spells work great against them and they give lots of xp. the reason you cant hit them is because your priest just isnt good enough yet.

that learning thing isnt a big deal. once you hit level 15 youll see

Where do I find empty flasks?

Will that leave me with an empty flask?
Is there any way to play the windows version in fullscreen without changing the master resolution?

dont drink a non identified potion... except as a last resort... and you find potions of water (always clear i think)

My character is by all means dead now, I think.

I dropped some gauntlets on an altar and found out that they were uncursed gauntlets. So I put them on - and they changed to become cursed on my hands!

So now I am the lucky owner of Cursed Gauntlets of Peace (-15, -15) [+3, +3]

I am sooooo dead now

autocursing... yeah thats kinda mean... look if you have a scroll of uncursing

dont forget to look at unidentified item wieghts!

Dipping the gauntlets into holy water will uncurse them. Since you are a Troll, traps like acid traps can help you get rid of it without too much trouble.

To get holy water, you only need to drop it at an altar and if your piety for your deity is high enough the water will be blessed by his/her power.

Taikara: do you play with the strategy stances? It's F1 to F6 I think. If you just can't hit something you can always try a more agressive stance, but you'll lose defense. On the other side, you could always try a wimpy approach if you wish to retreat and boost your defense at the cost of your offense.

I've been telling Tom my various experiences. As he's played it as well, I think he can attest that the situations the game seems to be throwing at me are ridiculous.

I've actually given in and read through several online manuals to see if I can improve my tactics and possibly give myself an edge, but there really isn't much I could be doing that I haven't already been doing.

Yeah, I know about the acid trap thing, but once I have passed through one, I simply sidestep it from then on.

As for holy water, I haven't asked for intervention once and have offered somewhere around 50-60 rocks, but even though my god deeply appreciates it, it is to cheap to turn my water into holy water

Stupid god, and stupid doggy for getting itself poisoned, and stupid creatures who don't attack me so I don't get any corpses and will soon starve to death. *sniff*

you have to make the trap go off.... cant remember how... look in the keybindings.

and the rocks dont do much unless they are huge... sacrifice living creatures. lure them over the altar and hit "O"
