Just sacrificed a goblin corpse on a grey granite altar. "Clamgaddin seems to be pleased." Who's Clam-man?

Edit: Oops. "YOU DARE TO SACRIFICE ONE OF MY OWN CREATURES?" How should I've known?

Your deity, evidently.

When you hear one of the special messages, like "you feel spirtually invincible" or that urge to power one eariler, it usually means something good has happened, like you have jsut gained the luck or fate smiles intrinsic (which make the dice rolls ingame to become weighted in your favour) keep an eye out for the "you feel extremely close to your deity" message, as that means you could be crowned/pre/post-crowned (which gives you artifacts, and other goodies).

Hurray! Dwarven settlement, and some guy called Thrundarr. Had to avoid a place with a Werewolf Lord. That one was certain death.

HAHAHAHAHAAH!!

I decided to have a go with the game, and the first thing that happened was that I found a bug in the game!

Just my luck, I guess...

Time to report a bug :D

Edit:
The bug is already known, oh well... Hope he fixes it soon :D

It's a useless talent anyway.

@Tiki: Lawful and neutral deities don't like it when you try to sacrifice a monster that has the same alignment as you. Chaotic deities don't care, which is why you can get sacrificed by monsters on a chaotic altar but not on a lawful or neutral one. There's basically two ways of finding out a monster's alignment
-trial and error
and
-the Know Alignment spell.

Defeated the Werewolf Lord  Also found some so-called trainer whose trainings don't do anything. I've managed to boost my dexterity up to 12, though, and am on a quest for the dwarven king. Lessee where I can find that white worm, and beat it to a squishy pulp.

Edit: Lvl. up! Now'm lvl. 14. This's my skillset so far:
Athletics: 100
Climbing: 83
Detect Traps: 56
Dodge: 100
First Aid: 89
Haggling: 22
Healing: 100
Herbalism: 60
Listening: 68 (What's this one do?)
Metallurgy: 28
Mining: 61
Smithing: 21
Stealth: 98
Survival: 64
Swimming: 100

I don't really understand what Listening does, and how to use Metallurgy/Mining/Smithing

I think listening determines the chance of getting special messages that announce the presence of certain monsters (like "you hear a distant wind" for vortices). Metallurgy determines what metal an item is made of, mining reduces the risk of pickaxes breaking and smithing can improve metal items, but it's awfully complicated and time-consuming, so it's usually not worth it. It can considerably improve items, though.
In order to smith you need
-an anvil
-a hammer that you're wielding
-something to smith
-ingots to smith with (you can get ingots by melting down the bits of ore you find when you dig tunnels - just smith the bit of ore)
-high skill level in smithing in order for it to be successful (you can raise your skill without wasting ingots by turning bits of ore into ingots)
If you've got everything you need, just use the skill. Oh, and there's one more thing you need: a forge. There's two guaranteed forges in the game, but one of them is swarming with monsters and in a highly corrupting area and the dwarven smith will charge money if you want to use his forge (unless you find a way of getting rid of him without turning the town hostile).

One more thing: there's a nasty bug that causes a game to crash whenever you stand on top of a pile of items containing both identified and unidentified ingots (you'll only be able to identify ingots automatically if your metallurgy skill is high enough). So whatever you do, always make sure all your ingots are identified before you drop them.

Got an ingot, but seems like I need to identify it first. Also... WOOOHOOO! Got holy water, dipped my girdle in it and now it's not cursed anymore, but actually blessed, and I can wear armor again. Trying on some stuff I've kept.

Uncursed scale mail (-1, -2) [-2, +4]
Uncursed mithril ring mail (-1, -1) [-1, +5]
Uncursed mummy wrapping (+1, -1) [-2, +0] (Ap-6)

I dunno what those numbers between the brackets mean

Also finished the dwarf king's quest :D

The numbers in square brackets are the important ones, really.
I'd dump the mummy wrapping if I were you, as it has no benefits whatsoever. It just reduces your DV and makes you look ugly.

Edited for a truly embarassing typo.

IIRC those are (melee to hit , melee to dam) [DV , PV]. Definitely dump those mummy wrappings.

The listening skill can be 'a'pplied, not sure what it does though - maybe similar to a stethoscope?

EDIT: Not as funny as my current one, Tom

The trainer in Dwarftown does do something, it just doesn't effect you instantly.  Every now and then, the game does a chheck to see if it should raise any of your stats, paying the trainer enough money, the formula for the amount you need to raise a stat at the next check is:

Quote

$100 * stat value, doubled once for each 5 points over 15

It is worth it, and a good way to spend excess cash if you haven't got anything you really need to buy/don't need any money to sacrifice to your god.

Newbie question. How do I identify items? I've gotten lots of stuff, but I'm afraid of wearing anything in case it is cursed...

Uhm... second problem, I can't get enough food - at all!

The stores haven't sold me anything in the food department (apart from the first town, where I don't have enough money to buy anything). I created a Troll Barbarian, who fought through the entire cave Northwest of the first town in a single go. Only to come to a mountain city far away, where they didn't sell any food. So, my character starved to death trying to get back through the cave.
