Ah, just you wait! Pretty soon you'll be an ADoM addict like the rest of us.  :P

A well said prediction; I'm halfway there. ;) It's pretty fun, I'll admit. I have a little problem with a the difficulty of Rogues sometimes...ah, well, it's worth it.
I have been informed that today is, in fact, opposite day, and what you've written there is absolutely true so you should probably just go.

I know what you mean. I just recently checked out Linley's Dungeon Crawl. I've finally gotten the hang of it (keybindings and such) after 10ish dead chars, and like it quite a bit. It's fun having so much selection as far as monsters and classes go, but ADoM is still my first love.  :P

Did I post a link here to that public Crawl server? That's kinda fun; you can watch other people dying too :P

Beastfighters are one of my favourite classes, they are stronger and tougher than monks (the other unarmed class) and the resistance to poison at level 6 is very handy (not coming across a crowd of spiders to get resistance early in the game can lead to big problems with things like bees later on).

Well, yes, it was a nice change from my usual spellcaster/fighter playing style, but I thought the difficulties I had in increasing DV sort of outweighed the advantages of the character's strength. The poison resistance of beastfighters is indeed nice, but those of my characters who haven't managed to get poison resistant by level 6 usually won't make it very far anyway...

What annoyed me most about this character, though, was that it was seemingly impossible to get hold of a waterproof blanket. The one in the small cave was too far from the entrance (and I went through the small cave rather late, so monsters in there were already generated as level 20ish), and pickpocketing only yielded fireproof and plain blankets. So I lost lots of scrolls and metal items to water traps. Very irritating. That character's willpower was also far too low for some reason - even regular doppelgangers nearly always managed to confuse him at least briefly, which made Rehetep a bit of a problem. And I couldn't rack up enough piety to get crowned either. On second thoughts, I should probably have tried to sacrifice or sell the ankh, since I never really use that anyway... Oh well.

Any ideas on how to get out of this situation my dwarven barbarian managed to get himself into?

I've already zapped all my wands to see if any of them teleport, I'm considering drinking some of my mystery potions to try and turn invisible or something, but that might be a little rash.

EDIT: I found I had a wand of trap creation on me, I zapped it under one of them to make a stone block trap, which killed it.  I'm not sure if that'll count against me in cat lord terms.  If it does, he still won't be very tough with only one dead cat.

It will, since you created the trap (cats lured into already existing traps don't count as kills, though). The cat lord will still be pretty tough, but as long as you can see invisible, have got a decent DV/PV while on coward and make sure the wand of fireballs you get from Thrundarr doesn't run out of charges, you should be fine. Plus he's worth lots of XP.:P

OK, probably my most idiotic ADOM death so far.:P
Lesson to be learnt: when zapping a wand of wonder, never cast a random spell on yourself. Unlike other bolt spells, Death Ray can be cast on yourself...
Oh well. Bit of a shame, though, since that character should have won the game quite easily after gaining a few more levels.

After using several hours reading the manual in the game, i finally got to the playing part, it was really fun...exept my character dying every 5th minute...and every time it's because of a random thingimajiggle-fight with hordes of orcs, or armies of wolves in the wilderness ...

Is there any ways to avoid these random encounters in the wilderness?..or reducing the numbers random encounters.

Yes, spend as little time as possible in the wilderness. Try to stick to the dungeons for the time being.

Oh man, I haven't played this in ages. I don't like this as much as I like Zangband and ToME though. I think it's the repetivness of the game if you lose(I hate the first dungeon, it's gay).

@Halindir:

The survival skill also helps you to avoid wilderness encounters (if you so desire), although other than that and infinite food, it's not a very useful skill.
