Nasty, I notice you went coward in that situation. I would have gone to beserk and attacked which target was the softest, then gone to coward after my escape route was clear. If no escape was possible, all you really do is delay your death, as you're not going to get out without killnig one of them.

My Human Beastfighter. In lack of anything better to do, I saved Khelavaster (I had 5 amulets of Life Saving), and I'm currently walking through the CoC Graveyard on my way to the Water Temple to try my luck there.
(The character log is just after I saved Khelavaster).
My most precious belongings are:
So... is it a good idea to head for the Water Temple, or should I do something else first? The Golems at Darkforge are still a bit too tough for me - although I can pick them off one at a time. So I could lure them up the stairs...

Yes, I'd say definitely go and finish off the water temple. You shouldn't really have any problems as long as you don't allow yourself to get swarmed by grues or demons. Good luck with your character - my first (and only, so far) winner was a beastfighter.

That's the water cave. You need to find a way to reduce water damage, or breathe water. Eating Blup's corpse works nicely, as do helmets/amulets of water breathing, but my personal favorite is a blessed ring of the fish. Any of those will do.
The water temple is in the CoC, somewhere around D:29-21 (I think). I know it's past the graveyard, but the level it's on varies, much like the level the dwarven city is on. To get into it, you have to dig into it from the side, as it's cut off from the rest of the level.

Or even 2 uncursed rings of the fish if you can spare both slots for a bit.

I managed to complete the Water Temple - but I gained one corruption (thorny hands) which I let be, since it is one of the best corruptions for a Beastmaster to have - but I suspect that corruption number 2 is just around the corner. That snake managed to hit me, even when I was on coward mode. I even had to pray once.
However, I am left with his corpse and a chaos orb. What should I do with these? Do I get any benefits from eating him? I bet I get lots of corruption by doing that, though...

Okay, here's my xiitor... Stupid me, I thought I really could beat that stupid dwarf... And don't ask what the hell I'm doing stuck there. I thought I go pick up some treasuries and stay on coward, drinking blessed potions of extra healing when necessary... Well, didn't take into account there might be some more creatures there...

If you put the Orb in your tool slot then you'll get a tasty +10 to willpower (The Orb of Fire, which you'll probably get next, gives +10 to strength, even better for you). It won't corrupt or have have any bad effects unless you 'u'se it.
As for the corpse, you are right in presuming that eating it will corrupt you massively, so don't. Try to get it to the Druid in Terinyo, he'll give you a potion of cure corruption if you 'g'ive it to him. It's definitely worth doing, even if you have to use a few potions of holy water to stop it rotting away on the way there (dip the corpse in with '!' once it goes rotten). The same applies to the other Orb Guardians too.
