I'm in the Dwarvern Graveyard, doing the quest to open up the portal to the lower CoC.  It says in the guidobook that it is possible to pour holy water on Griff Bloodaxe's grave in order to defeat him.  How do I do that?  The GB jsut says to use it on it, but it's not possible to equip holy water in the tool slot so I can 'u'se it; exactly how do I do this?

I remember doing it once, but I don't remember how. Isn't a way to "use" something directly from your inventory?

I've reached a bit of a dead end in the character I'm currently playing.  He's the best character I've ever had and about to face the Tower Of Eternal Flames.  I've been in a couple of times, and I'm not really confident enough to go to the top level, I can handle all of the monster in there (invisibility intrinsic helps a lot), but a coupel of the monsters, such as the fire giant lords, can get a couple of hits in before I kill them.  This leads me to believe I'm not strong enough to face some of the monsters in the temple, let alone the wyrm itself.  I've been hanging around the CoC for a while, leveling and searching for things (I'm hoping to find some more dragon slaying ammo, better armour, and some bracers).

What at what stage do you think he'll be ready to do the Tower, and what should I do to improve him (I'm quite worried about his low strength, I have to replace Ironfist with elemental gauntlets in the Tower leaving it at 25).

EDIT: I can't seem to upload the .flg file.  The error is:

"Upload failed. You are not permitted to upload a file with that file extension."

EDIT2: Thanks Tom!

The monsters in the tower don't matter when you're invisible, actually. The wyrm is just about the only monster in there that can see invisible. You need to be able to take the wyrm out from a distance, though - I wouldn't try melee combat if I were you. Since you can't cast any good offensive spells, your best bet will be missiles. I'd suggest trying for a few more arrows or quarrels of dragon slaying and continuing to train missiles in the meantime.  When you reach the top level of the tower, stay in the corridor you've created and zap your wands of magic missiles at the monsters in the altar room. Whenever you can, fire a poisoned missile at the wyrm while on berserk tactics. Shouldn't be too difficult - in fact, you could probably pull it off now, but it's better to have spare ammunition in case you miss.

Actually, you won't need to worry about the elemental gauntlets; since you have a ring of elemental mastery, that grants you immunity to fire, if I remember right. Although you'll probably give up your ring of high kings, I think that'll be worth the extra +7 strength.

That's a ring of minor elemental mastery, it gives resistance to all elements, rather than immunity to fire and cold.
Anyway, I wished for red dragon scale mails; so I'm now well defended and I can wear both the Ring of the High Kings and Ironfist.  I'm currently in The Tomb of the High Kings, scumming until I get some more dragon slaying ammo (still only got 4 quarrels).

EDIT: I did it!  I found 7 arrows of dragon slaying, blessed them. dipped them in poison, and went to the Tower.  The Wyrm is now dead.  The problem I have now is that an enormous gang of fire demons are sitting on top off where he died, I'm trying to get to the square he died but there are loads of them, and I'm not strong enough to tackle them.

EDIT2: I discovered my wonderful Tremendous Blow ability (as a barbarian), that means that when attacking an enemy who can't see me (as I'm invisible), I can deliver a huge amount of damage instantly that kills the opponent before they can hit back (usually it takes 2-3 hits to kill them).

Ah, I see now after looking at the .flg again. I thought that second ring was one of major elemental mastery; I guess I didn't look closely enough.  :) But it's good to hear you've made it! I've only made it through the ToEF once, and I came pretty close to croaking several times... But congratulations! I hear (from RGRA) that making it through the ToEF separates the good players from the average joe. :) Let's hope this one's a winner!

@Havell: What about missiles of demon slaying? You had quite a few of those, I think...

I used some of them but I kept losing them to the heat; I fire them at a demon, then another demon comes and sits on top of where the last demon died, so I have to kill him as well.  I ended up losing two missles of demon slaying every time this happened, so I decided I was capable of meleeing them (since Vanquisher is a demon slayer).  I found the Orb eventually, though the Wyrm's corpse was destroyed.

I'm now on D:37, the level below where the cat lord is.  The cat lord is incredibly strong (I've been very naughty when it comes to cats).  It can cause about 100 damage a hit, has 160 speed to my 120, and I can barely scratch it with my weapons; so I'm in in hiding.  I can make it past the Cat Lord and to the next level when I need to, so I think I can pit of killing it for now (I can't even sacrifice it, as it's neutral, and I'm a crowned champion of balance).

Recharge the wand of fireballs you got from Thrundarr and zap it when the cat lord comes into your range. Ball spells can't be shrugged off. He's also vulnerable to poisoned missiles of humanoid slaying.
If you killed more than ten cats, it can't hurt to wait for a bit before tackling him, though.

Nice. :bleh:
You should try to get better armour, though. The mummy wrapping is good for cold immunity and see invible, but eternium plate mail or dragonscale mail will give you a far better DV/PV.
Same old story every time. "Not good enough DV/PV!" :P

I'm playing this for the first time but they always end up killing me. :bleh: Time to resort to cheat-saving and read the spoily online guides.
