It doesn't affect the number of mimics generated in a game, though. That must have been just yet another whim of the RNG.

Ahhh... it is so sad. And irritating. I was doing very well with my trollish fighter, and had done both graveyards, the water temple, was waiting to find a ring of ice for the ToEF and a wand of cold for the RoHK, had cleared a vault full of frost giant berzerkers (thank you ring of invisibility! :) ) and had found an eternium halberd at level 11(!), which I had been using since. I knew my DV was quite low, but that is due to no shield, which I usually have, and figured was excusable until I found a one-handed spear of devastation or an artifact spear. I had done basically everything I could up until the ToEF, and had a handy stash of 10ish scrolls of chaos resistance in reserve to fend off corruption for as long as possible.

Unfortunately, giant water dragons tend to be *far* more dangerous than their lesser counterparts... I think I was at 210ish HP, when I ran into one and figured I could take it out with the help of a potion of extra healing. I was wrong.

(oh, and by the by, AJ, this does mean the ADoM thread is revived. :) )

Giant water dragon? You mean dragon turtle, right? Yes, those are tough bastards. Never attack them. One thing you can do, though, is to cast darkness and try to finish it off while in the dark.

Er, yeah. That's what I meant. How forgetful of me... I wouldn't be so stupid as to attack Shyrss...whatever at level 16.

He's a clear candidate for winner, I think.  :)

Nice.:)
You should try to get better armour, though. The mummy wrapping is good for cold immunity and see invible, but eternium plate mail or dragonscale mail will give you a far better DV/PV. Not to mention that wearing four artefacts increases your food consumption quite a bit. Those stomafillia herbs certainly won't last you if you plan to keep wearing all four - which you don't really need. The thick gauntlets, for example, are almost as good as the elemental gauntlets (and most of the resistances they give you've probably got anyway), and you're bound to find a sword that does more damage at the casino. You can still switch to the sword of Nonnak when you need to cast a ball spell, but there's no need to wield it all the time. Don't forget to bless your scrolls of defence and protection and use them to improve girdles, helmets, cloaks, bracers, boots and gauntlets. Or armour, once you've found a decent set.
Another thing you should do is get rid of the crown of science and Moonsickle. They're the reason why you've already got so many corruptions. Don't carry them around with you longer than you need to. Since you've got stealth at 100, I'd suggest doing the library next, so you can get rid of those nasty corruptions. Or if you've already done that, just use the final charge of your wand of wishing to wish for magical writing sets so you can write scrolls of chaos resistance. (Afterwards, just go into a wilderness square and regain the lost mana points by casting expensive but non-essential spells like Create Item, Earthquake, Greater Identify, Identify, Mystic Shovel and Petrification and waiting for your spell points to regenerate.)

I did it. I finally won ADOM. Now I'm ready to die.

On more serious notes, I think I should enhance my gaming style: I didn't achieve level 50 and, according to memorial file, missed some nice artifacts. That's my first victory though and the next ones will be better - if there will be the next ones, that is.  :) Thank you for hints too!

WOW! I've never beaten ADoM before, so I regard that as quite an accomplishment. :) I'm actually amazed you were only level 35. Seeing as how in your post before, you were level 23 at the casino, I must wonder - at what level were you when you killed the ancient chaos wyrm at the ToEF? When I made the final plunge to D:50 on the closest game I've ever come to winning, I was level 44. Then again, I did every quest I could get my hands on (aside from all the ultra stuff), while you probably just did the normal stuff.

I was level 21 or 22, I think - no lesser than 20 though. In this game I underestimated Ancient Chaos Wyrm a bit, but fortunately to me, I raised my willpower via 2 wishes just before going to the ToEF and finished it with empowered Acid Ball when I ran out of slaying ammo.

On a side note, I noticed an quite unpleasant effect while playing. When I reached dwarven town, I didn't have any means of teleportation, so I decided to leave mystic until later. When I reached him later (that was 65th day, I think), I checked my equipment, confident in finding those SoCR. That was not the case, as I found only potion of training and two potions of ultra healing. Whee.  :) Anyone else experienced this?

The dwarven mystic's scrolls aren't guaranteed. If you got them every time so far, you've been lucky.:)

Oh, and you can only get them if you're neutral. Lawful characters get other stuff from the mystic and chaotics nothing at all.

I see. In all games before I received approximately 5 SoCR and 6 potions of insight. Looks like I was lucky.:)

I think it's four, actually. At any rate it's worth a try if you're neutral...
By the way, did you discover the reason why your score is so low? Does xp figure in the scoring system somehow?:)

Well, I checked the GB and according to it value = xp/10 is added to the overall score. Achieving the goal of the game doubles it and leaving the Drakalor Chain doubles it again. I think that's the cause. I don't worry about score too much though as it's my first victory. :)

Good idea. I see crazy score posts in RGRA sometimes, and I think they get that way because of all the artifacts they leave with. I guess the real problem would be *finding* all the artifacts (and not selling/saccing them). I almost never see random artifact drops, and I've only seen an artifact room with a guardian *once* in my 4-5 odd years of playing ADoM on and off.
