Try the "e" key (that's one of the commands that makes sense and is reasonably easy to remember).
Ah, I was trying to hit "e" key in the inventory, silly me.

And AJ has a guide to ADoM? Link/Site?

This game is so addicting.

I'm writing a play guide.:) It's still in its initial stages, but you can be a guinea pig for it if you like. Sean initially volunteered for that, but never got round to it because other things were keeping him busy.
If you want something that's complete, try the ADOM guide book. For my guide, I plan to concentrate more on tactics and playing than on spoilers, but reading the guide book never hurt anybody. Having read it won't make winning the game much easier...

It's tactics I'm after. I'm starting to get the hang of the keybinds. And I'm doing well with my barbarian. He had a sad and lonely childhood. heh.

I'll PM the file to you. Do keep in mind it's work in progress, though.

Thanks for the file. And I drank the strange potions I found on the  floor... Bad plan, my appareance level dropped and my intellect rose.

My best char was a level 5 barbarian. I'm not uploading the  file.

That's good, Appearance isn't really a very good stat (not very useful), where Learning (I guess that's what you meant of "intellect") is very useful.  That sonuds like a potion of exchange that you drank, and you were very lucky; usually the stat changes are bad (eg, having a troll barbarian's Strength and Charisma swapped).

It is usually a good idea to avoid drinking unidentified potions because of that danger, just hang onto them until you find out what they are.

Ok, but I actually drank 2 potions. And yes, I meant learning.

Ah, this has to be the stupidest death ever! Craaapp!  :) My orcish fighter was doing so well, too... and he was even born in the month of the Raven! (my personal favorite) He found *two* potions of gain attributes before level 10, got a wish (which I used on an amulet of life saving) and then *found* an amulet of life saving, so I ended up with two!

I ended up taking all my clothes/equipment off on the level above dwarftown because I wanted to learn Farsight, and, as a fighter, you don't get good success rates learning books and it usually explodes into a ball of fire, destroying a bunch of valuable equipment (although I did manage to get two good reads out of a Strength of Atlas book I found earlier). I had one good read in and was shooting for two when I was teleported across the level, naked, with nothing in my inventory. To make matters worse, I had just gotten to L status to generate a lawful altar in Dwarftown and was on bad terms with The One Who Sees, so One didn't answer my prayers and I ran into a wolf tension room... I'll let you see the rest...

I just can't believe how stupid that death was.

What a shame.:)
Farsight is a difficult spell, though, so it's surprising the character managed to learn it at all. Next time, just stash the book somewhere and teach yourself spells by zapping wands of wonder in a safe place. Then, if you've still got the spellbook, you'll be able to bookcast spells like Strength of Atlas - it's less useful for combat spells, of course, because bookcasting doesn't increase spell efficiency.

It just didn't seem right for the ADOM thread to be down on page 2, so I thought I'd post my latest embarrassing-death story.  This one happened yesterday, to what was unquestionably my best character yet (see attached).  Yes, I'm still playing weaponsmiths, and this guy had done wondrous things with some of his items.  (There was a forge in an ideal location, one level above Dwarftown.)  95% of the monsters I encountered couldn't touch me at all, and the ones that could only got one shot.  I'd even managed to pick up a few useful spells along the way.  Well, I was coming back from clearing out the dwarven graveyard and sending Griff Bloodax to his just reward, and I figured I'd do a little hack-and-slash in the Big Room on the way back down, to see if I could find anything useful.  I was soon surrounded by jackals, which wasn't unusual, but while I was busy grinding them into jackal paste, I failed to notice an approaching gorgon.  I had no amulet of petrification resistance, and now the Big Room will forever contain a statue commemorating my deeds.

On a side note, this game seemed to feature an unusually high number of mimics for reasons unknown to me.

Ouch.:D But without petrification resistance, there's nothing you could have done (other than finishing off the gorgon before it got too close).
I once lost a character by killing a gorgon and then being stupid enough to eat the corpse before checking whether I had petrification resistance. Turned out that I hadn't...

So eating a gorgon corpse also petrifies you, eh?  Good to know.  If you have an item that grants petrification resistance, does eating the corpse grant you intrinsic resistance to it?

Not that I'm aware of. As far as I know the only way of gaining intrinsic resistance is pool-drinking.

The game is known to have slightly different effects on minor details depending of the time of year/day you play. For example, if you play on Monday you'll notice all your starting chars starts with some HP down.
