The best use for gold I've found yet, apart from buying stuff and using it for sacrifice at an altar, is to go train in Dwarftown. When paying huge amount of gold the stat goes higher faster.
That has never worked for me for some reason. Maybe I was just unlucky, though...

Well, yes and no. There is still a chance that you train but don't actually get a stat increase, I think.

The higher the stat, the greater the amount of gold you must pay to increase it (check the Andy Williams guide for more info).  Also, you need to wait until you next level up before the stat increase happens.

Well, in the long run it isn't really worth it, I suppose. By the time you've got enough money to pay him that much, you don't really want to be running to Dwarftown and back all the time...

That's why you build up an enormous pile of gold, then train with it all at the same time and hit your limits in all your stats next level

Look at it that way; you probably won't have much use for your cash after Dwarftown for a while, so you are better using up there and then pile up another stash on the way down just in case you need it later.

BTW, you can train with the blacksmith to learn the blacksmithing skill if you really have nothing to do with your cash. That's something to consider but it's costly and take a while to train.

Actually I usually use nearly all the cash I find to get my piety higher in case I need an emergency prayer. That usually works as well.

Whee! I've got another potential winner on the way. A randomly generated drakeling healer. The first time I've got a drakeling this far, in fact. I used to avoid them because that bit in the guidebook about drakelings and the Tower of Eternal Flames sounded so scary, but when you've got a means of regeneration (crown or bracers), it's no problem, really. At the moment I'm trying to level up a bit, so I can get my climbing skill to 100 and go and visit the library.

Oops, that reminds me: I'm off to a Spenser lecture. Mustn't miss that...

Ouch. What a shame. Grey elven wizards rock - once you get them past level 25, that is.

My drakeling's moving on to the earth temple next. That's my least favourite by far: lots of elementals that keep regenerating and become experienced very quickly...

How can I find spellbooks at the start of the game?  Occasionally I find a couple in the ID and obvisously I could just wait until I get to the library but are there any more efficient ways?
