Welcome to the project thread for my newest game, Underworld Apprentice.
Status: Finished

Posted Image

The game is being built using RPG Maker 2003. And this time around, I'm using custom sprites and graphics.

Story:
You were a human. You loved life. But then, one day, you died. But you also died with anger, and disgust. So you made a deal with the devil, literally. Your now a demon, and an undertaker. Your job is to transport dying souls into the underworld. If you do this for a while, you will be granted new life on the earth. But even when your dead, danger is still present...

Gameplay:
The game is based around your character. You will always start a mission in the underworld, which you are free to explore. To go on a mission, you board your dragon.

The game has two endings. Depending on whether you win the final battle or lose. It's worth checking out both endings. :D

A good start, Nick.  Nice graphics, atmospheric music, clear objective.   ;)

But a bit of background information when I start the game would be nice.  How exactly did I become apprentice?  How did I die?  Did I summon the devil, or did he come to me?  It would be good to show this in the game, instead of just here in this thread.   :(

A small mistake.  Should be [You're] or [You are] in an abandoned part of town.

If you try to explore gunshop after touching the man, the game freezes.   :D

Well, remember Frodo, this was only a tech demo. So a story and all will be present in final version. :D

I'll fix the grammar error, and I'll look into the gunshop error. Thanks Frodo. :(

UPDATE: After fixing the grammar error, I tried out the gunshop. And sure enough, the game freezed. I found the cause: The engine is trained to automatically move the "man" sprite, but when you explore the room, it can't move in certain areas. So, it think's the move is impossible, and freezes. I fixed it by enabling the "Ignore Impossible Moves" setting. All fixed now.

New screenshot. This is the 3rd mission, where you must go through the dungeon of the underworld and eliminate trouble making souls.

Quick update.

I've finished the intro scene, and missions 1, 2, and 3. Right now I'm working on mission 4.

The game is turning out to be more like an interactive story. Follow simple missions, and continue the game... However, mission 3 is much different. It's the first level to include actual battles, as your character is sent into the dungeon of the underworld, to eliminate some trouble making souls.

I'm planning on probably including 10 missions. It won't be very long, but I'm okay with it. I want it to feel like a web game. You want to play it, but you don't want to spend days playing it. :(

EDIT: I'm finishing the "Dungeon of Origin". It's a freeplay mode that you unlock.

Today was debug, reword, and make pretty day. :( I fixed some bugs and grammar errors, and tried to make the game's system look better. I changed the system's menu, battle stat graphics, game over screen, and I'm working on the title screen. But I need the help of Reloaded.

EDIT: I also removed the the freeplay mode "Dungeon of Origin" due to technical problems.

Well, I'm having trouble choosing a title screen. I've narrowed it down to these three. Help me pick one.

I love the Dark Art picture   :D
But if it's a title screen, you'll probably want to show the title, :(, and maybe text won't show up so well on this picture.

So I'll vote for the forest.  It's nice and clear, and moon over the forest is impressive.

I think adding text would make Dart Arts picture look cluttered.

In my opinion, Forrest is best for a title screen.

Now, it's about time this game had a name. I've come up with a few. Feel free to suggest some.

- The Death Dealer
- Demon Apprentice
- Underworld Apprentice
- Dark Deal
- Dead Deal
- Soul Worker
