Here's a nice YouTube channel dedicated to classic PC games:
http://www.youtube.com/user/CuteFloor

Has a large section of videos from unreleased DOS games, as well as alpha and beta versions.

Here's a few more nice sites:
http://www.ftp.funet...ex/msdos/games/
ftp://nic.funet.fi/pub/msdos/games/

You can find there "clean" versions (original file names, no additional BBS comments) of online shareware distributions of games by big publishers like Apogee or Epic MegaGames, along with some other stuff.

S&F Prod.
A neat site about oldies, with various interesting and useful info about classic games (an, in some cases, utilities like game data extractors).

MicroProse FTP Archive at GameFront
This is an archived copy of the official MicroProse FTP. Playable game demos, previews, patches and related files can be found here. The descriptions are rather scarce, insufficient and sometimes misleading though, so in some cases you might not known what you've got before you actually downloaded an item.

Westwood Studios FTP Archive
An enhanced version of the Westwood FTP, with some extra content thrown in, by Nyerguds, a well-known C&C enthusiast and author of the unofficial C&C v1.06 patch.
These links are unfortunately no longer active and have been removed from the list.

The MicroProse FTP copy can be found via the Wayback Machine:
http://web.archive.o...oprose.com/ftp/

However, not all files are available - hopefully this is fixed sometime in the future.

Your mileage may vary, but personally I find Mecha-Neko's game reviews at Super Adventures in Gaming quite entertaining to read :)

Here's a functional Westwood Studios FTP mirror (since their official FTP goes down frequently thanks to EA's tinkering or whatever):
http://downloads.sil...C/Westwood_FTP/

BTW, that site also has downloads of freeware C&C games:
http://downloads.sil...m/C&C/Freeware/

There seem to be quite a few FTPs with old stuff out there, and sometimes whole mirrors of companies or prominent gaming websites of the past. I've found most of those above with FTP search engines like Mamont FTP Indexer, Global FTP Search or FileSearching.com. Another good engine I used to find some rare stuff is FileWatcher.com but it's been down for quite some time, which is a pity.

There are rumours that FilePlanet is closing down, and since it isn't clear if they're going to keep their databases public, I've started looking for alternatives :) On the other hand, Swizzle of Demu.org has recently started uploading game demos and related files to the Classic PC Games section he maintains at archive.org.

There's a neat Italian site with lots of interesting (and sometimes rare) demos, but it's tough to browse because there is no easily accessible directory listing (or I haven't figured out how to get to it), and all the download links have to be edited manually to point to the site itself, because they point to a currently non-existing affiliate FTP. Directories of interest include:
http://volftp.tiscal...pc/msdos/games/
http://volftp.tiscal...s/games/arcade/
http://volftp.tiscal...os/games/demos/
http://volftp.tiscal...s/win3xx/games/
http://volftp.tiscal...ws/win95/games/
http://volftp.tiscal...5/games/arcade/
http://volftp.tiscal...95/games/demos/
http://volftp.tiscal...in95/games/rpg/
http://volftp.tiscal...games/strategy/
http://volftp.tiscal...ws/win98/games/
http://volftp.tiscal...8/games/arcade/
http://volftp.tiscal...98/games/demos/
http://volftp.tiscal...in98/games/rpg/
http://volftp.tiscal...es/simulations/
http://volftp.tiscal...mulations/cars/
http://volftp.tiscal...games/strategy/

Note that you'll need to manually copy-paste the links in your browser in order for them to work, and to download anything, copy the download link and change "ftp://ftp.volftp.mondadori.com/" to "http://volftp.tiscali.it/"
