Post the lyrics from your favorite song and maybe say a thing or 2 about what the song means to you.

I'll start it off with Eye of the Beholder, a song off Metallica's And Justice for All album. This song really means alot to me and expresses alot of the same frustrations I have with the N.American system.

Do You See What I See?
Truth Is an Offence
You Silence for Your Confidence
Do You Hear What I Hear?
Doors Are Slamming Shut
Limit Your Imagination, Keep You Where They must
Do You Feel What I Feel?
Bittering Distress
Who Decides What You Express
Do You Take What I Take?
Endurance Is the Word
Moving Back Instead of Forward Seems to Me Absurd

Doesn't Matter What You See?
Or into it What You Read
You Can Do it Your Own Way
If It's Done Just How I Say

Independence Limited
Freedom of Choice
Choice Is Mad for You My Friend
Freedom of Speech
Speech Is Words That They Will Bend
Freedom with Their Exception

Do You Fear What I Fear?
Living Properly
Truths to You Are Lies to Me
Do You Choose What I Choose?
Moral Alternatives
Energy Derives from Both the plus and Negative
Do You Need What I Need?
Boundaries Overthrown
Look Inside to Each His Own
Do You Trust What I Trust?
Me, Myself and I
Penetrate the Smoke Screen I See Through the Selfish lies

Doesn't Matter What You See
Or into it What You Read
You Can Do it Your Own Way
If It's Done Just How I Say

Independence Limited
Freedom of Choice
Choice Is Mad for You My Friend
Freedom of Speech
Speech Is Words That They Will Bend
Freedom with Their Exception

Do You Know What I Know?
Your Money and Your Wealth
You Silence Just to Hear Your Self
Do You Want What I Want?
Desire Not a Thing
I Hunger after Independence Lengthen Freedom's Ring
:ok:

Iron Maiden
"Blood Brothers"

And if you're taking a walk through the garden of life
What do you think you'd expect you would see?
Just like a mirror reflecting the moves of your life
And in the river reflections of me

Just for a second a glimpse of my father I see
And in a movement he beckons to me
And in a moment the memories are all that remain
And all the wounds are reopening again

We're blood brothers, we're blood brothers
We're blood brothers, we're blood brothers

And as you look all around at the world in dismay
What do you see, do you think we have learned
Not if you're taking a look at the war-torn affray
Out in the streets where the babies are burned

We're blood brothers, we're blood brothers
We're blood brothers, we're blood brothers

There are time when I feel I'm afraid for the world
There are times I'm ashamed of us all
When you're floating on all the emotion you feel
And reflecting the good and the bad

Will we ever know what the answer to life really is?
Can you really tell me what life is?
Maybe all the things that you know that are precious to you
Could be swept away by fate's own hand

We're blood brothers, we're blood brothers
We're blood brothers, we're blood brothers

When you think that we've used all our chances
And the chance to make everything right
Keep on making the same old mistakes
Makes untipping the balance so easy
When we're living our lives on the edge
Say a prayer on the book of the dead

We're blood brothers, we're blood brothers
We're blood brothers, we're blood brothers

And if you're taking a walk through the garden of life....

This is a song from the 1920s (I think; might be 1930s as well), and I like it because it's so incredibly wacky. I've got a CD with lots of silly songs from that time, and Nellie is one of my favourites, because it's subtle: all the apparent naughtiness about it is in the eye of the beholder, really - most of those phrases don't actually mean anything. Keep that in mind while reading some of the verses.:(

Nellie the Nudist Queen (can't remember who wrote it)
Nellie was a city gal, more then nine cents pure,
Then a country guy
Cam a-riding by
On a ten-cent trolley tour.
His eyes were mean,
His heart was black,
And this inter-urban tramp
Beguiled poor Nell and took her back
To his nearby nudist camp.

Well, his cohorts looked her over on a picturesque ravine,
From orchestra and balcony to - second mezzanine,
And then and there elected her to be their nudist queeeeen.

Oh she's so sweet when she appears,
The corn's all eyes instead of ears,
Taxi drivers flip their gears for Nellie the Nudist Queen...

As ancient Greeks
The human freaks
About the fields go naked.
It's good clean fun
Out in the sun -
That is if you can take it.
If only God can make a tree,
As famous poets tell,
It seems if God can make a tree,
He ought to make a Nell.

When you see a nudist wedding, as we did the other day,
You can watch the groom's expression when they give the bride away.
You can tell by her reaction if the model's old or new.
You can always tell the best man at a nudist wedding, too.

Well, some creditors came calling to some clearing in the hills,
And asked to see some statements that would justify her bills.
When they viewed her liabilities, the atmosphere was tense,
But when she showed her assets - boy, her assets were immense!

And her overhead expense to say the least is very small,
She never needs a tailor, there's no laundry bill at all,
And her meals are always splendid in her out-of-doors menage:
A dinner for a dollar, and of course no cover charge.

[it goes on for a bit, but I can't be bothered to write down all the lyrics right now]

Pink Floyd - Time

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way.
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way.

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain.
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.

So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older,
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.

Every year is getting shorter never seem to find the time.
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over,
Thought I'd something more to say.

DakaSha:if you go into a kindergarden and give all the kids rubber schlongs they will prob just hit each other over the head with them
DakaSha:and you have a class of little kids hitting eachother with rubber dongs which must be quite funny (also Picklweasel knight I am)

The 69 Eyes: The Chair

Just walk
Away from these dreams
And talk
The pain what it seems
Angel of my revelation
I don't really want to let you
Walk
Away from these dreams

You've gotta turn it all over
You've gotta turn it all over
All over again

Kick the chair right down under me
Leave me hanging alone in misery
Kick the chair right down under me
Leave me hanging alone in misery

Walk
Away from these dreams
And talk
The pain what it meens
Angel of my revelation
I don't really want to hurt you
So walk
Away from these dreams

You've gotta turn it all over
You've gotta turn it all over
All over again

Kick the chair right down under me
Leave me hanging alone in misery
Kick the chair right down under me
Leave me hanging alone in misery

Probably one of my favourite DT songs, it really goes across many themes through the seasons as the title states. (It's also their 23 min song, but that's just a bonus.  :()

A Change Of Seasons

[Music by Dream Theater]
[Lyrics by Mike Portnoy]

[I. The Crimson Sunrise]

[Instrumental]

[II. Innocence]

I remember a time
My frail, virgin mind
Watched the crimson sunrise
Imagined what it might find
Life was filled with wonder
I felt the warm wind blow
I must explore the boundaries
Transcend the depth of winter's snow

Innocence caressing me
I never felt so young before
There was so much life in me
Still I longed to search for more

But those days are gone now
Changed like a leaf on a tree
Blown away forever
Into the cool autumn breeze
The snow has now fallen
And my sun's not so bright
I struggle to hold on
With the last of my might

In my den of inequity
Viciousness and subtlety
Struggle to ease the pain
Struggle to find the same

Ignorance surrounding me
I've never been so filled with fear
All my life's been drained from me
The end is drawing near...

[III. Carpe Diem]

"Carpe diem
Seize the day"

I'll always remember
The chill of November
The news of the fall
The sounds in the hall
The clock on the wall
Ticking away
"Seize the Day"
I heard him say
Life will not always be this way
Look around
Hear the sounds
Cherish your life
While you're still around

("Gather ye rosebuds while ye may)
(Old Time is still a-flying;)
(And this same flower that smiles today)
(Tomorrow will be dying")

We can learn
From the past
But those days
Are gone
We can hope
For the future
But there might not be one

The words stuck in my mind
Alive from what I've learned
I have to seize the day
To home I returned

Preparing for her flight
I held with all my might
Fearing my deepest fright
She walked into the night
She turned for one last look
She looked me in the eye
I said, "I Love You...
Good-bye"

("It's the most awful thing you'll ever hear")
("If you're lying to me...")
("Oh, you dearly love her")
("...just have to leave...)
(All our lives")
("Seize the day!")
("Something happened")
("Gather ye rosebuds while ye may")
("She was killed")

[IV. The Darkest Of Winters]

[Instrumental]

[V. Another World]

So far or so it seems
All is lost
With nothing fulfilled
Off the pages and the
T.V. screen
Another world
Where nothing's true

Tripping through
The life fantastic
Lose a step
And never get up
Left alone
With a cold blank stare
I feel like giving up

I was blinded by a paradise
Utopia high in the sky
A dream that only drowned me
Deep in sorrow, wondering why

Oh come let us adore him
Abuse and then ignore him
No matter what
Don't let him be
Let's feed upon his misery
Then string him up for all the world to see

I'm sick of all
Your hypocrites
Holding me at bay
And I don't need
Your sympathy
To get me through the day

Seasons change and so can I
Hold on Boy
No time to cry
Untie these strings
I'm climbing down
I won't let them push me away

Oh come let us adore him
Abuse and then ignore him
No matter what
Don't let him be
Let's feed upon
His misery
Now it's time for them
To deal with me

[VI. The Inevitable Summer]

[Instrumental]

[VII. The Crimson Sunset]

I'm much wiser now
A lifetime of memories
Run though my head
They taught me how
For better or worse
Alive or dead
I realize
There's no turning back
Life goes on
The offbeaten track

I sit down with my son
Set to see the Crimson Sunset
(Gather ye rosebuds while ye may)
Many years have come and gone
I've lived my life, but now must move on
(Gather ye rosebuds while ye may)
He's my only one
Now that my time has come
Now that my life is done
We look into the sun
"Seize the day
And don't you cry
Now it's time
To say good-bye
Even though
I'll be gone
I will live on
Live on"

I wouldn't call this my favourite lyrics, since there are so many to choose from, but I like it a lot. :(

Motörhead - Talking Head

Don't touch that dial!

Television screams, your face turning green,
Don't listen to the news,
Don't know what you hear, they never make it clear,
They like to keep your state confused,
Propaganda time, the official line,
You're hungry, you get fed,
Everlasting smile, you must convey their style,
But they're just a Talking Head

Television voice don't give you any choice,
You only hear the man,
Don't take them in, you don't know where they been,
'Cos it's a complex plan,
They keep you nice and quiet, even control your diet,
You're hungry you get fed,
Teach you to be meek, 'til all you are is weak,
'Til you're just a Talking Head

Television screams, this ought to be a dream,
Remember what I say,
Don't be hypnotised by sugar coated lies,
Don't switch it on today,
It's the way things are, from that pickle jar,
You're hungry you get fed,
But if you play the game, you become the same,
Another Talking Head

Edit: Ah, I only just noticed that we're supposed to say a thing or two about the song. Well, I think it speaks for itself, pretty much. But it's still funny to think that it was written 27 years ago, before the time of spindoctors. :)
Furthermore, it is my opinion that Carthage must be destroyed.

Metallica
"...And justice for all"

Halls of justice painted green
Money talking
Power wolves beset your door
Hear them stalking
Soon you'll please their appetite
They devour
Hammer of justice crushes you
Overpower

The ultimate in vanity
Exploiting their supremacy
I can't believe the things you say
I can't believe
I can't believe the price you pay
Nothing can save you

Justice is lost
Justice is raped
Justice is gone
Pulling your strings
Justice is done
Seeking no truth
Winning is all
Find it so grim
So true
So real

Apathy their stepping stone
So unfeeling
Hidden deep animosity
So deceiving
Through your eyes their light burns
Hoping to find
Inquisition sinking you
With prying minds

The ultimate in vanity
Exploiting their supremacy
I can't believe the things you say
I can't believe
I can't believe the price you pay
Nothing can save you

Justice is lost
Justice is raped
Justice is gone
Pulling your strings
Justice is done
Seeking no truth
Winning is all
Find it so grim
So true
So real

Lady justice has been raped
Truth assassin
Rolls of red tape seal your lips
Now you're done in
Their money tips her scales again
Make your deal
Just what is truth?i cannot tell
Cannot feel

The ultimate in vanity
Exploiting their supremacy
I can't believe the things you say
I can't believe
I can't believe the price we pay
Nothing can save you

Justice is lost
Justice is raped
Justice is gone
Pulling your strings
Justice is done
Seeking no truth
Winning is all
Find it so grim
So true
So real

Seeking no truth
Winning is all
Find it so grim
So true
So real

They fall in line
One at a time
Ready to play
I can?t see them anyway
No time to lose
We?ve got to move
Steady your hand
I am losing sight again
Fire your guns
Its time to run
Blow me away
I will stay unless I may
After the fall
We?ll shake it off
Show me the way

Only the strongest will survive
Lead me to heaven when we die
I have a shadow on the wall
I?ll be the one to save us all

There?s nothing left
So save your breath
Lying and wait
Caught inside this tidal wave
You?re covers blown
No where to go
Holding your fate
Knowing that I will walk alone
Fire your guns
Its time to run
Blow me away
I will stay unless I may
After the fall
We?ll shake it off
Show me the way

Only the strongest will survive
Lead me to heaven when we die
I have a shadow on the wall
I?ll be the one to save us all
You wanted it back

Only the strongest will survive
Lead me to heaven when we die
I have a shadow on the wall
I?ll be the one to save us all
Save us all

Well not that this song really means anything... at least not that i can see. But i love how maynard sings it :(.

he actually makes it sound like there really is some deep meaning or something... so if anybody knows what it means or has any thoughts let me know (besides the obvious meaning that is :) )

TOOL - Stinkfist Lyrics

Something has to change.
Un-deniable dilemma.
Boredom's not a burden
Anyone should bear.

Constant over stimu-lation numbs me
but I would not want
you any other way.

It's not enough.
I need more.
Nothing seems to satisfy.
I don't want it.
I just need it.
To breathe, to feel, to know I'm alive.

Finger deep within the borderline.
Show me that you love me and that we belong together.
Relax, turn around and take my hand.

I can help you change
Tired moments into pleasure.
Say the word and we'll be
Well upon our way.

Blend and balance
Pain and comfort
Deep within you
Till you will not want me any other way.

It's not enough.
I need more.
Nothing seems to satisfy.
I don't want it.
I just need it.
To breathe, to feel, to know I'm alive.

Knuckle deep inside the borderline.
This may hurt a little but it's something you'll get used to.
Relax. Slip away.

Something kinda sad about
the way that things have come to be.
Desensitized to everything.
What became of subtlety?

How can it mean anything to me
If I really don't feel anything at all?

I'll keep digging till
I feel something.

Elbow deep inside the borderline.
Show me that you love me and that we belong together.
Shoulder deep within the borderline.
Relax. Turn around and take my hand.

edit: or could the meaning be hidden up in that passage where i put the italics? i really am confused about this song. one could say that he just wanted to be funny but i cant go for that 100% :P

Paranoid Android - Radiohead

Please could you stop the noise, I'm tryin' a get some rest,
from all the unborn chicken voices in my head.

What's that? [I may be paranoid, but not an android.]
What's that?

When I am King you will be first against the wall,
with your opinions which are of no consequence at all.

What's that? [I may be paranoid, but no android.]
What's that?

Ambiton makes you look very ugly.
Kicking squealing Gucci little piggy.

You don't remember, you don't remember,
why don't you remeber my name?
Off with his head man, off with his head man.
Why won't he remember my name?
I guess he does.

Rain down rain down, come on rain down on me
from a great height, from a great height, height.
Rain down rain down, come on rain down on me
from a great height, from a great height, height.

That's it sir you're leaving
the crackle of pigskin
the dust and the screaming.
The Yuppies networking, Ah!
The panic the vomit,
the panic, the vomit.
God loves his children,
God loves his children.
Yeah!

A song about to keep on fighting to keep the hope alive.

Queensryche- Take Hold Of The Flame

Take Hold Of The Flame

We see the light of those who find
A world has passed them by
To late to save a dream that's growing cold
We realize that fate must hide its face
From those who try
To see the distant signs of unforetold
Oh... oh, take hold

From a haze came a rage of thunder
Distant signs of darkness on the way
Fading cries scream of pain and hunger
But in the night the light will guide your way

So take hold of the flame
Don't you see life's a game
So take hold of the flame
You've got nothing to lose, but everything to gain

Ride, to a place beyond our time
Reach, for the edges of your mind, and you are there
See, that the light will find its way
Back to a place where it will stay, make it stay

Throw down the chains of oppression that bind you
With the air of freedom the flame grows bright
We are the strong, the youth united
We are one, we are children of the light

So take hold of the flame
Don't you see life's a game
So take hold of the flame
You've got nothing to lose, but everything to gain

@DakaSha
After consulting with a friend of mine, it seems to refer to three things. I think you got the first one :)
The others:
1: Drug addiction.
2: How one constantly needs a more powerfull stimulans to get the same effect.

That's something? :(

I really like some of the lyric selections in here. A little bit of everything; Floyd, Metallica, Maiden, Tool, just what I like to see :(

Kreator - Impossible Brutality

All I see is Terror
All I see is pain
All I see is mothers dragging children to their graves
A curse as old as time, An armageddon misery
Spectators of a World in ruins
Hypnotized I'm staring at

Impossible Brutality

Its all there was, Its all there'll ever be

All I see is violence
All I see is hate
All I see is tyrants dragging servants on a chain
A curse as old as time, An armageddon misery
Spectators of a World in ruins
Paralyzed I'm staring at

Impossible Brutality

Its all there was, Its all there'll ever be

How much more can you take
Propaganda mind control
From the cradle to the grave
Poisoned fruits to kill the soul
The weak following the blind
Fearful hearted empty eyed
In this mortal plane of slaves
Life's oppressors can not be destroyed

Impossible Brutality

Its all there was, Its all there'll ever be

And as your World collapses
I'll watch it die in silence
I wish this day would come now
Await it's dawning without fear
