Plenty of realism in Swat with pretty much all the tactics you have to do, if you know anything about police work. (Such as having to hand-cuff everyone in a level including hostages, because that is part of real life Swat protocol) think you'll like this game dude, is a challenging one. Especially the last level.

Well, I guess I do have a vague impression after military police and guard training and continuous following of the modern tactics and equipment... :(

Plus it's just a cool game all around. If ya can track down this game try to get it, 4 will be easier to probably pick up, but 3 is still a classic. :(

Well Delta Force lost itself after thrid sequell, in my opinion. Swat is really great, each time you open the door ( and there are plenty of ways to open them - including a bomb on the  handle which scares the suspects ) you are rushed with adrenaline.

Swat 3 had great graphics in it's time, and I'd dare to say they could be considered average even by today's standards. Not to mention that having a cheap machine will allow you continuous playing without resolution cuts or detail lowering. I mean, the game is supposed to play without problems on computer with 32 Ram, if I remember correctly. And I believe it is very cheap, you could go to Sierra's webstore. I mean, if Civ 3 is approx. 15 Euros on Microprose's site, then Swat 3 won't be more than that since it is much older.
Also, if you buy original version somewhere, you can upgrade it to gold edition ( with more levels and some extra stuff if I remember correctly ) without extra cost from Sierra's site.

An the only bad thing is that it can't be launched in dosbox or win xp.

PS: Sorry, what is OFP?

Actually if memory serves me correctly if you have the original version that first came out, you have to upgrade a couple of times and it's rather larger than if you buy the straight elite edition, which would be the better buy as it's the same price as close quarters, but think now the only version you can grab is the game of the year and frankly that's all you really need and again same sort of price range with loads of extras.

Operation: FlashPoint, or that is what I think it is. Oh, and the kids playing SOF and Postal about them, the industry isn't to blame, it's the parents for letting them play it...

Ahh was just looking still lots of add ons for Swat 3 that ya get from many fan sites around, also the multiplayer component of the game while was good back in the day doesn't run as much these days, since support was dropped for 3 awhile back. Luckily there is still tcp/ip support.

Thanks for the tips.

And yeah, OFP is Operation Flashpoint. Excellent game, especially with FDF (Finnish Defence Forces add-on). One of the highest rated add-ons there is and not without a reason! Though there's one mission that becomes impossible in one of the original campaigns after installing it...

Yeah, but that shouldn't be a probem if you make a  back-up copy your original gamefiles.

Well yeah, but on the other hand I've never wanted to go back to original, so if I install OFP, I don't care about the originals. :(

Always heard not so great things about OFP, think it mainly came out when a slew of FPS were coming out.

Well, it's totally different compared to others. Perhaps you've heard those not so great things from people who love brainless jump-shoot-kill-run-like-hell-and-hope-you'll-get-the-best-frags-games?

Nope actually. :( These were fans of the typical sort of game OFP is under, plus the general gaming media wasn't a fan of it thanks to some unforgiving elements/bugs.

Well admitted there are bugs and some features aren't for everyone. But those who enjoy serious warfare - thus simplified - find it excellent. How old is it? No matter, it's still going on strong and proud. Try to check out several communities: active, fanatic and excellent quality. Though not all...
