Only cheap whisky should be mixed with soda - alright whisky gets a small amount of water and nice whisky nothing other than a bit of ice. Anything else just ruins it.
I used to add some water, but today I prefer it straight without anything. Ice lessens the taste in my opinion and if you leave it in too long it'll just blend the whisky out too much.

Of course I only drink whisky from Islay so I might have a different attitude towards water and whisky for other breweries/areas.

I can't drink whiskey straight not after that first experience *cringes* at least adding some water to it, made it somewhat drinkable.

I'm guessing he means, drink it down as quickly as possible, good strategy I agree.

MdaG, some advice please. I wasnt aware that straight whisky shots are supposed to be taken slowly. Does that somehow enhance the fruity flavor?
Please help me understand...  :apple:

Well, if you drink whisky for its taste, you should mix it with water one to one and take only small sips. But I seem to prefer nowadays on the rocks.

Well, occasionally I take it down in one big sip too, but there's no actual point doing that. Also I've been drinking years ago double or even triple whisky shots and I can tell that it's nothing more but macho-*crapola*e. But, opinions are like ***holes, everybody got one!
