Hey everybody  :)

I know this has been done a thousand times before, but I've noticed that there are quite a few regulars on AR that I know little to nothing about. So, I decided to open this topic so I could get a better feel for the members here. So, please feel free to post some tidbits about yourself here ;)

To start things off... *deep breath*

I live in the United States, in Florida, though I really don't have any heartfelt attachment to the American way of life. It's not that I really am anti-USA, but that I tend to find my own perspective at odds with the perspective of the American populace in general. I didn't really realize that until I got to university and realized I was getting along much better with international students than I ever had with people of my own nationality (in general). I'm planning on travelling a bit, as soon as I can manage, and see if it really is the case in a larger scale of life.

I personally tend to keep to myself... I'm not exactly shy, just protective of my privacy. I tend to get really absorbed in tasks... big time. I work myself to the point of exhaustion on projects that are important to me.  I'm one of those people who is decently good at just about everything, but not exceptionally good at any one thing. I have a lot of different interests, but gaming has always been one of my favorites, as it combines story, art, music, and general geekiness (my top interests) all into one... and I've been gaming since I was about 6 years old (I'm 25 now).

Okay... well... looking forward to reading about you guys...

Well guess I'll do mine next.

I live in Canada, in the province of Alberta, proud to be Canadian most of the times anyway, there have been some situations these past few years that really can change your perspective on the situation, but overall it's a good place to live and I'm glad I'm here.  ;)

I would consider myself a reserved person at times, it may take a little bit of time to get to know me but once you do I'm a pretty outgoing guy after that and I try to joke around a bunch whenever I can. I'm a pretty active guy in real life too I like to bike, roller blade anything activity wise is always fun, played hockey for 7 years which was cool and was fastest skater on my team during last 2, honestly when you see a guy who's 6'1 on skates going full speed at ya, it raises some eyebrows ;).

I got many interests from music, to movies, to gaming of course which I enjoy doing whenever I have the opportunity, both console side and pc side so I'm fairly versatile, always like doing multiplayer when I can with friends and such as I always find that to be very fun times. I've been gaming since about 3 I believe, first game was Super Mario Bros and still am playing games today (I'm 20) and hope many for more years to come. :)

Ok, let's see... I'm born and raised in Belgium, moved from one part to another when I finished kindergarden and have been living in this town since. I really don't like it here. It's like idiocy built a village. The area 'round it's laughing at it because people here're so dumb, and there's even been a mockery song made 'bout it: "Take me down to *** City, where the girls are green and the grass is pretty" The worst thing is... they mock it with reason.

I've literally been nuts, just not officially, but grew out of that (to some extend) If I behave odd or in a non-expected way, it's mostly due to what that's brought with it. I also tend to have different views on things than people in general, which some people might find refreshing and valid views, but most just seem to ignore them. Then again, most just seem to ignore me completely, so my views as well.

All in all, I'm horribly shy (you wouldn't say, now would you :) ) and what one'd call introverted, but I'm also as honest as one'd get, which can get some painful situations. All in all, people know that when I say my thoughts, those are my thoughts. That is, if they can be arsed to listen.

As for hobbies... I'm on the comp alot, and besides that, I'm a boyscout (No, not one of those twatty, naive US boyscouts. They give scouts like me a bad name) and have been since I was 11 (am now 20) Besides that, I like walking through forests, but there're no forests nearby that're actually good for a walk. Biggest one's grown for 3/4th on a junkyard, so you can imagine >_>

Born and Raised in Northern Illinois smack dab in the middle of the North United States, I have lived here pretty much all my life but I travel whenever I can. I live on the outskirts of the city of Chicago.
I am one of those mythical people that doesn't like politics and just prefers to have fun.  I hope someday to be like Robert Ripley and see most of the countrys in the world and fall in love with every place I see. I wish I lived in the days of discovery so I could see the world before it was developed up and we had everything mapped and charted.
I was a Boy Scout too...though regretably I am one of the Twatty Niave US variety ;)  I made eagle and I occasionally help out now as an adult volunteer leader. Now my hobbies are playing games, writing, and visiting friends.
I am pretty shy too in person, but if I get to know someone I am pretty easy to get along with.
I'm not terribly exciting...:)

I am Danish and I live in Copenhagen, Denmark and have all my life. I also have a Belgian citizenship, and I have a lot of family there who I try to visit as often as possible. As for interests, I'd say they are pretty standard; music, movies and, of course, gaming. I also read a lot in periods, meaning that a year can easily go by where I read no books at all, and the next year I'll be reading like a madman. Besides this, I'm a politically active socialist, in the Danish sister organisation to the English Socialist Appeal.

I have to agree with all the people who enjoy travelling. It's one of my greatest pleasures, and I have travelled quite a lot, although mostly in Europe. My favourite way of travelling is backpacking as it gives you a freedom to go whereever you want ánd follow your whims, and you tend to meet a lot of young people from all over the world that way.
Furthermore, it is my opinion that Carthage must be destroyed.

Time for me to come out of the closet it seems....

Nice topic everyone ;)

Anyways... I am 24 winters old, and is currently living in Trondheim. I have been moving most of my life, and thus hold no place as my place. When people ask where I come from, I just say Norway. I was born in a small city on the southern coast, called Farsund. A really nice and quiet place. Great place to grow up in. ;)

FARSUND

Since then I have moved all over Norway, including Longyearbyen, Svalbard. This city is totally awesome, and you will fall in love with it immediately upon arrival ;)
For newcomers, I would recommend the winter time. The place is magical at that time. Just be aware that you won't see the sun at all for months. However, the summer can be difficult to cope with if you don't have experience, as the sun sits completely still right in the middle of the sky for months. Meaning it is hard to get sleep. (You have to barricade all the windows to get it even remotely dark). All in all a magical place. Once you have been there, you always return.

LONGYEARBYEN

Right now I live in Trondeim. A city placed right smack in the middle of Norway. A very nice city, if you don't mind the "occational" rain. The city has some really nice architecture, like Nidarosdomen and a lot of Viking excavations. And is also the home of the Rosenborg football/soccer team. Apart from that there isn't much to say really :P

TRONDHEIM

As some might have guessed travelling is in my family's blood. My mom has been living a long time in Longyearbyen, but moved down to Trondheim 6 months ago. My brother lives in Denmark. My dad and little sister lives in Germany with his family there. I try to visit them as much as possible, but it is hard when you are broke all the time. ;)

For the last year I have been studying medicine in Spain, where I had a lot of fun. Our teachers took us on parashooting, mountaneering, trips to other cities, and much more. We even managed to throw in some learning from time to time.

As for hobbies and interests, I've been dabbling in a lot of things. Just like Taikara I am one of those who are pretty good at everything, but lack a speciality. It's kinda hard to explain. I have been a very active person all my life with my share of sports. Basketball, Football/Soccer, Handball, Volleyball, Gymnastics, IceHockey, Hockey, Swimming, Diving and Orientation. My latest love is Pool, which I picked up in Spain. I am also an ex boy scout, and love the wilderness. It's really fun to be out in the forrest with only your survival skills, building shelters and making fire. Allthough I almost got sick of it in the military. I was in a unit that was training for NATO, and we had 200 days in the wilderness. This was worsened by the fact that I was in the north of Norway, and we were not allowed to make fires. Of course... there is a really good reason for not making a fire in the midst of battle, but at the time it sucked ;) We even trained some American Elites in how to fight in a winter terrain. The sights of them trying to ski across a flat terrain cracks me up to this day ;)

Other personal interests are drawing, games, pen & paper RPG and of course the two Abandonia sites.

To finish it all off, here's a nice picture of me and my brother. I'm the one to the left... loosing the race :)
(The picture is from our house in Farsund.)

True. The cartoon was part of a unit about various Norwegian dialects, and our teacher forced each of us to say "Hælvetes konduktør skit" in a proper Trøndersk accent. :) Dreadful. He had a great laugh listening to us, though...

Okay, a bit about me:

Well, first off, I'm an Aussie. That means that I have a high tolerance of the substance known as alcohol. This however, does not mean that I enjoy 'Aussie Rules'... that sport is f***ing gay. Rugby League is my sport, and the sport of the east coast of our country... oh, and one more thing... it IS a spoon.

Anyway, I am currently studying Web Design, and seemingly knowing more than the teachers, I just sit around throughout the day drawing in Photoshop, or writing something for my site: Lord Harts Dungeon where I talk about a whole lot of useless *crapola*.

I had been a longtime member of the PWSE (Pro Wrestling Simulator Enthusiasts) community, where I mainly kept spammers and other idiots in order and offered support to those that made games there. I've been working on a number of adventure games the last two years now, with two released last year with hopefully two more this year, the next one being my Doctor Who game, and then my long awaited Brad Bradson II: Red Shirt Saga.

I like beer, boobies, am an avid collector of b-grade horror/sci-fi/comedy movies of the 70's and 80's, and i'm usually a good source for info when it comes to old cartoons and tv shows. I studied film making at high school, where I began to write film scripts as a hobby, and in the future intend to shoot at least one (a horror one involving the mythos of bigfoot).

Throughout my adolescence, I was an inspiring Rugby League player, selected for various representative teams in my area, but had to quit at 18 after a string of successive injuries (broken collarbone, injured knees, and the catalyst, a back injury which I have not overcome entirely). I am however beginning to do weightwork and exercise, and hope by next year, I can resume my career. I was going to coach a juniors team this year, but missed the sign-on day at the local club.

Um... I can't think of anything else. So heres a picture of me from last years State of Origin here in Australia. I'm the one drinking Bundaberg Rum and has his head painted... oh wait...

Posted Image

Ah, i'm also doing a hand gesture to the camera... wait... um... oh, i'm the one with the shaved head. Yeah, thats me. That photo was taken after about 20 rums, and then straight after a few local and foreign TV stations interviewed us about the game, which is an annual 3 game series between New Souths Wales (blues) and Queensland (maroons). I seem to remember replying something about Manchester was going to win or something to the cameras.

And here was my choice for the new pope, a bulletproof perpetual motion bird on wheels:

Today it seems to me providential that Fate should have chosen Braunau on the Inn as my birthplace. For this little town lies on the boundary between two German states which we of the younger generation... whoopsie, wrong biography.

I live in Belgium, in a little quiet suburb near the city of Antwerp. As a person I am known to be charismatic, friendly and outgoing... but also  as sarcastic and sometimes manipulative. Most of my friends agree that I am quite eccentric and megalomanic (where did that come from?) and my English teacher once compared me to a 19th century factory-owner, the kind Marx was talking about, the kind that would eventually go "Merry Chrismas"... at the end of a Dickens novel.

I do not have any specific hobbies since I don't tend to stick with them for a long time, I enjoy debating though I am usually the devil's advocate.

Other than that there really isn't much to say, I want to study law and perhaps go into politics after that.

I live in Reykjavík, Iceland, but originally come from Patreksfjörður.
Should be in Patreksfjörður (aka Patró) right now, but my parents forgot to mention they were going there and left me home alone.

I'm 17 years old, turning 18 this year. I study languages at Hamrahlíð College, focusing on English.

I've studied music since i was 6, I play the clarinet. I'm not in a music school at the moment, but I still play in bands and on my own. I've also studied piano, and i learnt guitar by myself.
Tom, you forgot to mention something ;) I think you know what I mean :)

I love movies. I spend a lot of time in the Movie Theatres with my boyfriend, we've seen most of the films that are playing now.

I also like games (duh!). Right now i'm playing the new star wars game on ps2 and Kingdom Hearts  ;)

I have a wonderful boyfriend called Grétar. We've been together for 6 months.

I was going to post a pic, but i forgot i moved most of my stuff onto the other computer. So I guess I'll just post it later.

Ok, my turn. I live in Sweden. I'm a 24 year old engineering student. I'm majoring in numerical analysis and computer science. I'm not shy at all and have no problem making contact with people (I think ;)). I used to practise Taekwondo a lot, but quit when university studies made their way into my life.

I currently live with my girlfriend in Stockholm, but during autumn, winter and spring I study in Uppsala. My favorite game genre is Adventure and certain RPG's and strategy games. I seldom watch TV since I think most of the shows on it are crap. I tend to waste my time on my computer instead  :) . I love scottish Whisky, especially the ones from Islay. British ale is also something that I really enjoy in the company of friends.

While I'm typing this I'm currently working and taking classes in internet programming (HTML, Javascript, PHP, SQL, etc.). So far I know most of the stuff, but I guess it'll get harder towards August.

Since I'm a Linux (and Windows) user I tend to hear a lot of potential games (we aren't exacly spoiled on the games front) and most of them are made by amature programmers and often released as freeware or Open source. I wanted people to know these games were out there and started a thread at Abandonia's forum where I posted links to the games and when this site was born I started posting here instead...

I am a 20 year old American from Connecticut, and I am currently in college.  I work for Ocean State Job Lot (discount department store), and on the weekends I'm a merchant for my own small business.  I intend to join the US Navy after I finish an Associate's Degree, and then work towards a Master's degree or better in Archaeology.

Though I am officially a registered Democrat, I've aligned with the small and unfortunately virtually unknown Libertarian party (I just never bothered to reregister).  I resent the capitalist lifestyle of many Americans, in particular the commercialized fads and fashions, and I am often suspicious of moneymaking motives among politicians, writers, and moviemakers.  Though I despise capitalism, I have no love for socialism or communism either.

I also resent the pretentious Europeans who think they are better than everyone else and have strong, unjust hatred for non-Europeans, especially Americans (who have been getting the short end of the stick ever since WWII ended, thanks to the European factions who call themselves "powers").  I think the EU and any European unification movement should not be in existance because of Europe's plans of American domination (which seems apparent because of the Euro and Europe's present resentment and manipulation of America).

I am a practicing Roman Catholic, and my views on Church doctrine agree with those of the Church, however my opinions of how one should worship conflict with those of the Bible thumpers who go to my church every now and then.  I also have more knowledge of why Roman Catholics believe what they believe than most Roman Catholics do, yet I don't know how I acquired my knowledge.  My beliefs also conflict with Christians in general who think books should be burned because they don't preach Christianity, non-Christians can't go to heaven (actually, Smerdyakov from "The Brothers Karamazov" illustrates my opinion on this when he questions the point of martyrdom), proselytization is a good thing, and that the Church comes from the Bible.

Slight delay for me here - a good example of my unfortunate fundamental laziness and tendency to inactivity (whether or not one breeds the other I can't be bothered to work out).

That bit in parentheses might also have made you aware that I'm a fan of Spaced, along with all sorts of alt. comedy in general (Incidentally, has anyone been watching Mock the Week here in the UK - a spiritual successor to Whose Line Is It Anyway? Discuss).

I'm 21 and live in Leeds where I'm doing a degree in Maths (with an 's') - my fourth year starts in September. I also work for Privilege Insurance (we're the ones with Joanna Lumley on the adverts) as a "Customer Contact Representative" - answer the phone, help people with their insurance policies (or charge them for things, depending) and try to sell them breakdown cover, which I'm not especially good at.

I'm a big music fan despite being unable to play an instrument - my mp3 collection recently grew too large to fit on my 20 GB iPod :)

I'm a left-leaning liberal politically, and also a fan of proper beer (real ale, Belgian bottle conditioned beers and so on) and a wine drinker. As for religion, I'm a committed atheist (not an agnostic, thank you) and while I have no problem with personal religion I'm generally opposed to organised mass religion and particularly any kind of ties between religion and state - something I admire in the French system but depise about the American one. As a scientist, I find Creationism particularly repugnant. *shudders*

I quite often paint my nails, mainly because it amuses me to confuse those straight blokes who are really uncomfortable with the whole idea of homosexuality (I'm straight myself, in case anyone's wondering). Oh, and I think I might be developing some kind of OCD (well, that's a huge exaggeration) regarding the positioning of my television when I'm watching it, and turning off electrical sockets with nothing plugged into them.
