Transcendence is being upgraded and added to all the time, but it's not a game I'd call a 'project in the making'. It's a perfectly playable game already, with modding capabilities, hundreds of items and enemy ship-types, (so-far fairly simple, admittedly) economic system, very smooth 2D graphics, and an online community. There's only one developer, but he's quite willing to add in new ideas and suggestions.

well, it reminds me of esacpe velocity, and I'm kind of last as to where i's like net hack (net hack is like ADOM with Icons, right?)

Excellent game, combining both roguelike and arcade shooter. Would be commercial if it had better graphics like flatspace. Very very nice 2d rendered graphics though.
Don't know if I can play the updates now that I beat it. The story is a little short, even if everything is randomally re-generated.
